I’m thinking of applying as English… I don’t think there are any Pre-reqs for that, I could be wrong. Also if my major doesn’t require math, so if I got up to Calculus in HS, do I need to complete Intermediate Algebra?

@Callofduty-No. If you got up to Alg 2 with a C or better in HS you don’t have to take intermediate alg in cc, plus your major is english so just double check for prereqs other than that, you’re good with the math part.

Jaajaa20 - Thank you for the Response!

Yeah, I’ll have the Writ 140 completed
I’m actually thinking of applying as Health and Humanity first then English? Would it be bad to apply H&H if I haven’t done any Chemistry or Biology courses yet? I’ve been looking at the Transferring to USC booklet, and it says Chemistry and Biology under recommended courses. Couldn’t I just complete them next year as a sophomore at USC (if I get in that is)
I’ve noticed that with Marshall, you should have all your pre-req’s done, but some people (from previous years) didn’t have all their major requirements done or they didn’t even do it and just completed GE’s.

But I don’t know…Ive been researching and Health and Humanity sounds interesting :D

@CallofDuty84

For Marshall prerequisites are important. Applicants cannot be eligible for admission unless they have completed them or are in the process of doing so.
This is generally accepted. Prerequisites, in any major especially impacted ones, are vital in admissions. Therefore if it states to complete certain courses, be sure to do before you apply for admission.

MitchaPalooza -

Thanks! That’s true for Marshall you have to complete your pre-req’s. But I want to apply for Health and Humanity first, then English or Anthropology ( haven’t decided on the second choice) - _-

For Health and Humanity, Biology and Chemistry are just “additional course recommendations” if I want to become “more competitive.” So I don’t know if I can complete my sciences this year, but it’s worth applying and giving it a shot
Right?

But if you look at Business/Accounting it states “Courses must be taken prior to enrolling at USC” At the end, Marshall wants more from an applicant along with the SCA and Annenberg.

Hey guys! two quick questions, my first question is in Highschool i took ICA which is Intermediate college algebra. Will this satisfy the requirement because I saw the math could be taken in highschool. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if you have a better shot at getting in CLAS-undecided or Anneberg communications? I cant decide which one to put first.

Good Luck everyone!

Laxlove and anyone else asking about the math requirement - yes, if you took intermediate college algebra (more commonly referred to as Algebra 2) in high school then you do not have to take it in college to transfer to USC.

And Lax - Annenberg is more competitive than CLAS, so I recommend you put that one for your first choice. If you are currently a freshman applying to transfer as a sophomore, they will automatically consider you as Undecided if you do not get into your first two choices (current sophomores do not get the automatic consideration though). So, I’d recommend you pick out another major that you’d like to be considered for if anything else caught your eye.

@dreamupsided0wn Thank you so much. Also one more question does anyone know if it is required to take two composition classes before entering? Even though I have already taken Writ 130.

no, you only need one composition course and it is writ 130/140.

@dream

Are you only applying for SCA? Do you have a second choice major?

My 1st choice is Critical Studies (SCA) and my 2nd choice is Narrative Studies (CLAS/interdisciplinary).

hi guys i want to take classes at a college besides my primary college except in hs i took a class there and recieved a D so now that is part of the transcript. This D was back in HS now i have all A and hope to get an A in the class i want to take. Do you think USC will reject me because i failed that class or do you think they will see that my current grades dont represent my hs grades at all and that i am a different student ? please help me decide if i should take a class or not and send in the transcript with the bad grade. Thanks guys!

jeezha,

Regardless of whether you choose to re-take the class, you MUST submit transcripts of ALL college work attempted when you apply to any college, including USC. This includes classes from which you withdrew and in which you received grades you do not like.

If you fail to submit all transcrpts, the consequences could include having admission rescinded, expulsion, or revocation of any degrees granted.

To answer your next question, “How would they know?” there is a National Clearinghouse for the information and all USC has to do is enter your information and they will see all colleges you have attended. I have seen my report, and even a first-aid class I took 15 years ago at a community college showed up.

So your plan to re-take the class is a good one to reduce the negative impact of that grade.

Good luck.

P.S. When you click submit on your application, you will be “signing” that you have submitted all transcripts - be sure to read what it is you are swearing to.

I am still so confused! I have tried contacting my admissions counselor but they still have not gotten back to me. In one place it states this “Transfer students generally complete two English composition courses before transferring”… then in another place it says this… “You must complete two semesters of English composition before enrolling at USC.” So i am really confused, I am only a freshman and I got waived out of the first english comp class because I had a good enough english ACT score but this semester I took the class equivalent to WRIT 130. So I am not sure do I have to take another English class or what?

@Laxlove - I took Eng 101 & 102 before transferring and that satisfied the writing requirement. As long as you complete both of those courses or test out of them through act/sat, you should be ok.

LAX - make sure you just complete the Writ 140 requirement :)

Does it matter when we have that completed? I mean… Can I take it in the spring or should I take it in the winter?

@CallofDuty84

Always try to take prerequisites before you submit your application. USC will not see Spring grades unless they ask for SGR which will prolong the decision. In addition you’ll now have to rush to get signatures, forms filled out, etc. It’s just another hassle.

When is everyone going to start asking for LOR?

Do you HAVE to put down a second choice major if you’re only interested in one?

My LOR are already in the mail…because my stuff is due on December 1st. I’m growing anxious though…because I mailed my LOR on Monday and the Document Uploader still hasn’t gotten them yet even though when I mailed my transcripts they were on the uploader in two days. Hopefully it’s just because of Thanksgiving :X
