I thought USC doesn’t require letters of rec. Am I mistaken ?

certain majors and schools require them. School of Cinematic Arts requires three, not sure about the other schools…

@ RamboRambo.

they arent required for general admission but some majors and schools require them.

Ugh guys due to family problems and work my first semester gpa of freshman year is not looking too good. So far I have all B’s, do i still have a shot if my essay is really good? Next semester im going to try and shoot for A’s. Im so upset :(

@ sydneyral & Laxlove

Okay, yeah I was basing my response off of what I heard for business majors.
I’m just guessing that the Letters of recs should be due with the rest of your app, but that’s just a guess as I’m not too sure.

@RamboRambo

LORs, transcripts, etc do not have to be in when you submit your application. They only have to be postmarked by the due date. Therefore, if the due date is March 1, you can send everything is as long as it is postmarked by the 1rst. However, try to give yourself time and send it several weeks in advance allowing room for error (gets lost, etc).

@pikachu

Hey, don’t worry. B’s aren’t bad…did you have any B+'s by any chance?

Aim for all A’s next semester.

so your GPA would be from a 3.0 to a 3.5 (3.0+4.0/2) = 3.5

Whats your major again?

where do we send the rec letters to?

Hola! I’m a newbie here and I’m pretty certain I stumbled upon this thread at the perfect time. I was reading above and I’m still confused about letters of rec. Are they required for transfers? Apparently some schools require them but I’m applying to CLAS as a kinesiology major and it doesn’t say that they’re required. Am I mistaken?

Anyways here are my stats…chance me please!
I’m a sophomore at Cal State Fresno
my current gpa is a 3.78…I’m on track to get a 4.0 this semester so if things work out as planned I’ll have a 3.87 by the time I submit my application.
I currently have 34 units that transfer but I need to check with a counselor to see if my kines classes transfer.
My high school SAT test scores were dreadful and I graduated with a 3.5 I believe…so I’m thankful that I have over 30 units.
EC’s and recognitions: on the Fresno State Cheer team, Dean’s list, NSCS (The National Society of Collegiate Scholars), participated in Emerging Leaders workshops
Work Experience: I work part-time at The Little Gym (motor skill development facility for children)- I’m thinking this will look impressive since it correlates with my major

I have a lot of EC’s, leadership positions, and volunteer hours from hs should I include those in my application?

Other than that most of my units transfer but don’t go towards my major, however, I have completed scientific inquiry and arts & letters. The classes I enrolled for in Spring count towards the math requirement for my major:precalc, writing, and diversity. I might also take the spanish requirement but I heard that’s not necessary to transfer?

Anyways I’m done ranting now…I just can’t get my mind off of this
I’ve debated transferring way too much and I think I just need a confidence boost.

@ jgirl06
Hey, I’m in the same boat as you. We have similar stats, and I’m going to try and transfer for next fall too. I think that you should be fine as long as you have a strong essay and keep your gpa up.

Sorry I’ve been super inactive on here lately.
School and work are eating my life up… Yeah, re: ECs, I think I should be okay since it’s obvious that I work all the time. One of my jobs is at a movie theater, so that’s related to my major, right? ;)

OH AND GUESS WHAT YOU GUYS. This is for all the film nerds on here applying to SCA: I just got cast as an extra in Steven Soderbergh’s new movie Contagion! XD We’re filming on Friday. I am SO PUMPED. I can’t wait to see Soderbergh in action.

My grades are pretty good right now… I’m doing really well in Stats.
I bombed the last two tests… 53% and 54% respectively. My best friend tutored me for like 8 hours and I ended up getting a 104% on the test we had this week.
AND the professor said that test would replace the previous test because it covered the same material and new stuff. Then our final is going to replace our lowest grade. So yay, my grade is going to go up like 20-30% because those were the only two tests on which I did poorly.
I am now anticipating either an A or B in that class, and I’m getting As in my other classes… so tentative GPA for first semester is in the 3.7-4.0 range. I’m happy with that. :D

I’m very eager to start next semester… my schedule is pretty sexy.

Monday/Wednesday
FRENCH 101: 11-12:40
ENGLISH 102: 1-2:15

Tuesday/Thursday
CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY 202: 10:50-12:05
PSYCH 101: 12:15-1:30
SOCIAL PSYCH 215: 1:40-2:55

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
I’ll have exactly 30 credits. Cutting it kind of close, I know, but still. I wanted to take one more class, but my CC cut me off because I hit the maximum. v_v Pretty annoying because I’m currently two credits away from my Associate’s… I’ll mention that in my USC app. Oh, and almost all of those courses are in my CC’s articulation history with USC… I think the only one that isn’t is the Psych 215 class, which is an intro class. I found an equivalent in USC’s catalog too, so I’m fairly confident it’ll transfer… it’s one of the requirements for a minor I want to do (Consumer Behavior), so I’m getting a lot of stuff out of the way.

Now I just have to ask everyone for the three recs I need, and I’m all set!

Okay, this post is now a bestseller so I’ll just leave you with this…

Congrats Dream! I really hope you get into SCA! Definitely write about that one on your application? :)

How would I put it into my application that I am a private tutor and work about 15 hours a week? I have no boss or supervisor so theres no way to prove it to them.

For my entire life I have always wanted to go to USC. I applied during high school but didn’t get in. I decided to go to the University of Oregon. I am technically a freshman but will be a sophomore by the spring. I feel I have become more competitive since coming to the University of Oregon and would like to see if I could transfer to USC, but I don’t know. Here is my resume of sort since college, do I stand a chance?

University of Oregon GPA: 3.6 (struggled a little my first term of college)
Finished all my pre journalism courses
Member of the “Warsaw Sports Business Club”
Started the “Standing Strong Foundation” a foundation aimed to help families of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) patients.

I am a Native of Berkeley, California.

Am I competitive for USC?
Thanks

So for the EC’s do we list them under the activities page? I’m confused because I thought that was only for seniors in high school…

@CallofDuty84

If you have ECs, I would list them. Just follow the example from https://camel2.usc.edu/AdmOnlineApplication/pdfs/SampleActivitiesSummary.pdf

okay, that you link you gave me Mitch, under transfers… is that where we list our courses that will be in progress?

@CallofDuty84

Yeah.

@ lucky
Truthfully, there is no way of knowing your actual chances. I asked everyone to chance me too and then I stumbled upon this thread.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/904974-usc-transfer-decisions-2010-official-thread.html
This is a list of people who were accepted, rejected, and given sgr’s for 2010 and their stats. USC acceptance is very unpredictable. People with 4.0’s were still rejected but it seems to me that the optimal GPA range is about 3.8 and above. Still, one had a 3.3 and was accepted. My advice is to submit a kickass application. That’s my plan.

I have a question for everyone too…when it says prereqs completed in the link above, are they talking about additional course recommendations? Or the core requirements for their major?

@girl06

Prereqs completed means applicants have complicated the core requirements. GEs completed means they have completed courses in General Education Categories 1, 2, 3, and/or 5.
