USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Oh wow SCA people had to turn their stuff in by December 1st? Everyone else is by Feb right?

What was your first and second choice major? Yeah, if they just accepted you as undeclared, maybe you can find your interest in something else?

Good luck though  Yeah, I don’t think they care much about the SAT.

@jgirl - what happened? grades drop?

Nothing really bad happened it was just a longggggggggg semester. As of right now my final in bio dropped me from a 90% to an 87% so I’m hoping that the final curve will bump me back up to an A. My psych class also turned out to be harder than I thought. So I can either get two B’s this semester or a 4.0. The anticipation is killing me. I still have 2 more finals to go. blehhhhhhhhhhhhhh

:)

Yes, if you would like to apply for need-based financial aid, I recommend filling out the required CSS/Profile and FAFSA. There is no option here - both forms and parent/student tax returns are required if you are applying for need-based financial aid.

If you only submit the FAFSA, you will only be eligible for Federal financial aid such as Stafford loans and Pell grant. USC grants are distributed using the CSS/Profile. If you do not file the CSS/Profile, you will not receive USC grants.

Did I mention that **both the CSS/Profile and the FAFSA are required **for need-based aid?

Good luck!

Does anyone know the average GPA of acceptance for CLAS for a major like Global Bus.??

I remember seeing a page online that stated the avg’s, but can’t seem to find it… :(

Does anyone know how to on the activity summary where to state college EC’s I know how to do all my highschool ones, but if im writing something from college what do you put for grade?

I filed a CSS…do I have to print it out and send a hard copy with my tax returns or will USC know to search it?

^ Did you enter USC’s code to have the CSS/Profile sent to USC? If not, log back into your CSS/Profile and have it sent electronically to USC. There is no need to send a hard copy.

Yes, I entered the code when I filed the CSS. Awesome. Now I just need to wait for the FAFSA to be available for 2011-2012 and for the CalGrant and I’m done with that mess.

What do i do if my winter session ends after the USC deadline? Afterall, they only ask for spring grades not winter grades if you didnt send them along with the fall. Or do they? Do I just not send in the winter transcripts since I wont have them anyways by the deadline? Or what?

Hey Jaajaa,

who’s your regional advisor? I would recommend emailing him or her. When your winter grades are out, tell your school to send your transcript to USC. Send Fall first, then winter, then spring if they ask for it.

alamemom - Thank you soooo much for all the information. I never knew about CSS!

How long did it take you guys to fill out the CSS?

Jaajaa, please post what your regional advisor says about winter grades! I am in the same situation with my application already in (Dec 1st) without winter grades.

For those of you asking about the financial aid forms, there is a very useful book that takes you through the forms line-by-line. It is Paying For College Without Going Broke by Kalman Chaney. You can get it at most bookstores for about $20 or on Amazon for about $15. Be sure to get the 2011 edition.

I strongly advise NOT paying someone to file the forms for you - with the book you CAN do it yourself.

I find it easiest to do both forms on the same day - much of the information is duplicated, so it speeds things up - but filing them at different times is also fine.

Does USC weigh transfer grades similar to the way they weigh their own???

for example…A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C-=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, D-=.7, F=0

???

@snizzle77

I believe so. That’s the most common interpretation of the 4.0 scale so I would not see why USC would use a different scale/grading method.

My grades on my transcript don’t state “+” or “-”'s, so how would USC know?

My friend who goes to USC says they do weigh them, but do they weigh them like that for those of us transferring out? Or are we on the normal weight scale…

I’ve been under the impression that our transfer grades are A=4.0, B=3.0… and pluses and minuses don’t matter???

@snizzle

On your transcript, it will say A, B, C, etc

but then in your GPA it will factor in the + or - if you got 2 solid A’s (4.0) and a B+ (3.3)

(4.0+4.0+3.3) = 3.76

Why is SCA’s deadline December 1st and other ones like Marshall, CLAS, etc Feb 1st?

Good luck everyone… I was in your position last year and let me tell you, its ALL worth it. Keep working hard and be patient!

@callofduty - sorry again for the confusion LOL :(

@everyone else, gluck again!!! i was in the same seat last year. and has anyone mentioned the backdoor method yet? or the status updates? i have a list of all of them.

ill post if anyone likes, but i promise you it will only create anxiety
