USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Well, everyone who applies has a chance - and just like the kids with the 4.0 SGRs who are inexplicably rejected (very rare, but if you search last year’s thread, you’ll find a couple), there are always some applicants you would not expect to be admitted based on the numbers who get good news - maybe that essay will catch someone’s eye.

And one doesn’t choose to be lame, one just “is.” :)

snowboard, I am not really sure - I was very surprised to hear they do not consider ECs, to tell the truth. In trying to apply common sense to that, why would they ask you to list your ECs on the application if they were not going to consider them?

Maybe the ECs are like the freshman interviews - it doesn’t hurt if you don’t have them, but it can help a bit if you do. (Or maybe they don’t impact it at all - but again, why would they have you go to the trouble of listing them?)

@tantungnam:

No I haven’t gotten the USC ID yet :confused: I’m gonna wait until the first week of January to find see if they have updated it. If not, I’ll call the university.

@Rambo : i think you should call them on monday because the sooner you get it, the better. If you wait until Jan, you only have less than a month left…just in case some unexpected things happen

I know it’s very early and most of you haven’t written essays yet but who wants to pass them around? I’m more than willing to show mine to people (it’s already in. You can’t steal it :wink: ) for critique and inspiration.

I wish there was another SCA Writing person in here to read my materials

@sydneyral

While I’m not applying to the SCA writing program this year, I did apply last year. I didn’t get in but I’ll definitely read them and let you know what I think.

@corvin - did you ever ask why you weren’t accepted as undeclared?

Also, I just logged on my USC page, and it says:
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision. If for some reason you do not receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results this over the phone beginning June 11th.

I haven’t even submitted my application yet, is there a error?

It just means that you are that GOOD, they didn’t even ask for your application!
In all seriousness… that sounds like a screw up, maybe you should call their offices after christmas to sort it out.

Haha that would be SOOO nice! Is anyone else having this problem?

Also, for the “schools attended”

For the college part, I put UCI, but from the attended from, I’ll put 9/2010, but what should I put for attended to… since I’m still going to UCI…?

For transfers, Do we only list courses in progress or planned courses as well

Anyone applying to the School of Theatre here?
I’ll be transferring from a community college with a 4.0 GPA (46 credits currently, not including AP classes). Trying to get a B.F.A. in acting hopefully. My GPA doesn’t cement me in unfortunately, I have to audition. I have pretty good EC’s and had 3.4 GPA in High School.

@Callofduty84

No, I never asked. I didn’t think that they would give me an answer if I asked. Do they actually dive into details if you ask them? I just kinda assumed that if they did that and had a few hundred people asking it would be kinda chaotic.

But yeah, I noticed the same thing when I logged in a few nights ago to begin my application for next year. I was hoping that SCA didn’t reject me already before I sent in my materials. I mean c’mon it’s christmas. lol

@tantungnam:

Just curious, why do I need the USC ID though? Like what’s the reason for it. Do I have to write that on my transcripts when I send it in or do I have to do anything else with it ?

rambo: Your USC ID is also your student ID number. As applicants, it distinguishes you from the other RamboRambo’s out there without having to do specific searches (do not create more work for them). Write it on the transcript envelope and use it with every correspondence you have with USC. When/if you become a student, your USC ID is your university lifeline -much like a social security number.

lostcollege: in-progress ONLY.

COD84: UCI: 9/2010 - present

So If I apply now, Im not taking any courses, so do I leave it blank?

It depends. Are you already registered for spring classes? If not, will you be registered before Feb 1? If so, I would wait to turn in your application until you’re registered for those classes, which will then put those classes under ‘in-progress’. The classes from the fall will be in transcript and no longer ‘in-progress’.

USC knows that a lot of colleges are super laggers when it comes to finalizing and delivering transcripts. The only thing you can control is having your application in by February 1.

Keep in mind that there is NO BENEFIT to turning in your application early; it’s just going to be sitting there until they’re finished with freshman applications.

Corvin- Haha, no I don’t think so. But I wonder why you didn’t get in as undeclared.

Budlighter- so I said Attended from 9/2010 but it wants a month and a year for “attended to” so what month and year should I put?

And we don’t need to put anything under diploma/degree?

COD84 - I have no clue. haha. I was just looking at my own application from last year and I entered expected dates for both. To be quite honest, I don’t think it matters since you’re applying to transfer. Those dates are for people who have attended other colleges, which I have. Sorry for the confusion.

For my month and year for the “attended to” I just put may 2011. My spring semester ends then…so it would make sense that my final month at the school would be the last month of the semester.

Lol you guys should sticky the whole 30 unit thing.

You must have 30 units by spring semester NOT application.

there we go :]
