USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Finish my requirements for UC’s and CSU’s (which would only be a math and geography class) then apply to USC next year along with AFI and a few UC’s.

I’m super-passionate about AFI, but you need to be 21 to attend. I am not.

When I saw this, I thought AFI meant “a few ivies” until I saw the last line of your post. You see every imaginable abbreviation on these threads so I assumed. Haha.

Oh yes. Ivies are just what an aspiring filmmaker needs ;)

If they offered a program at Harvard…I’d totally go for it! I’d love to join the Harvard Lampoon!

@everyone-

when we paste our essays, we don’t need to write our USC id numbers on the top? right?

or do we just paste it and move on…?

I didn’t write my number at the top.

****, I didn’t write it on the top of most of my supplemental materials. I called USC to ask if that mattered and I was told that so long as I used the document uploader (which I did) there would be no problem.

Including your USC ID within your essay isn’t necessary; It’ll be recognized through USConnect. The only time you should manually enter in your USC ID is if you’re communicating with USC directly, outside of USConnect (e.g. mail, e-mail, phone, fax, etc…)

If I don’t log back in before tomorrow, I’d like to wish all of you a safe and joyous new year’s eve!!! Mostly safe. hah.

Alright, that’s what I thought. Where is the document uploader? I don’t see it on mine. Also, when we send our transcripts for the fall, winter and spring does it have to be official? I was thinking of sending in a “official transcript” for Spring and send in a unofficial transcript for Fall and Winter or does USC just accept official? I figured if I send a official one for Spring, they could verify my fall and winter grades? I know I’m getting a SGR because I won’t have the writing requirement done until Spring…

I’m confused about USC’s writing requirement of WRIT 130/140. Are transfer students who have completed the equivalent of W130 at community college required to take W140 and core requisite Social Issues at USC? Or does W130 at cc count as W140?

@roffle

Do you go to a CCC? If so you can use the link at the bottom to see what course will satisfy the WRIT 130 or WRIT 140 requirement. It’s similar to assist.org. Just select your current school and your anticipated major. The site will generate a transfer advisement sheet showing you the courses that will satisfy requirements and general education areas.

This link is for Marshall but it also displays what courses will cover the WRIT 130/140 course.

Just to clarify… if I complete the course that satisfies USC Course “Writ 130 or 140” (English 2 at SMC) I do not have to take the Social Issues/Writ 140 class at USC? And the only english class I have to take at USC would be Writ 340?

I am referring to this quote on the USC website on the writing requirement: “Most students entering USC complete two semester courses to fulfill this writing requirement: at the freshman level Writing and Critical Reasoning (Writing 140), a course offered in affiliation with General Education Category VI (Social Issues) course, and an advanced writing course (Writing 340) generally taken during the student’s junior year at USC.”

I guess the Writing 140 is intended for freshman only?

1 month left… anyone worried about their essays? do you guys have any tips on finding people help us proof read our essays?

For the CSS Profile, when it says, What will be the student’s year in college or university during 2011-12? I should put 2nd year because I’m a sophomore or should I put first year (previously attended college) because it will be my first year at USC?

confused.

@bing, I’ll read your essay if you want and some guy on the USC board said he could read them to!

Just got my fall grades!! I did much better than I thought, thankfully! One month left and I’m getting more nervous…

@CallofDuty: Put the year you will be in while at USC.

I put my third year, if that helps.

I don’t know if you’ve covered this already, but has anyone asked if it is possible to double major in business administration and film production without doing the joint program?

Also, is it allowed to apply to more than one undergraduate program at once? If so, how would i go about doing that.

@syd - alright, so I should put 2nd year then since I’ll be a sophomore at USC. (hopefully)

Wow less than a month, crazy crazy crazy. So I just got back from vacation and during my time away, I wrote so many ideas on my phone for my essays! Its all scrambled and now that Im back, I want to narrow it down and start writing it. I plan to write it on the “what matters to me and why” or the light bulb one.
@ callofduty and sydneyral, a few posts back you guys mentioned you wouldn’t mind reading essays or reading your essays and getting help from each other. I would very much appreciate if you guys are willing to read all my ideas and give me feedback as well as a glimpse of what you did. Also, Callofduty, you mentioned someone on the USC board could read essays too? Can you please give more details on that :slight_smile:

Thanks !

Haha yeah sure, the person posted on USC CC - HappyBuddha. I read his post a couple days ago, and he said he would read essays.

Jaajaa- Yeah sure, I’ll read your essay whenever. When is everyone sending in their app? Haha it won’t matter they won’t look at our apps till April most likely.

Wait so where do your USC id? i have looked everywhere, and i didnt submit Part 1
