USC 2011 Transfer Thread

its it possible to get in to USC Viterbi with a 3.2 GPA? with all the pre-reqs done ?

At the time of application all I had was Secretary of Bio Club, (forgot to mention gold medal), oh yeah when I applied I also had a LOR stating how I was rank #1 in my bio class, lol.

I think I was rejected from 1 of the following reasons.

Eng 102, I did not have it done by spring (university requirement), however, I sent a letter stating I would take it over Summer, and I didn’t have it complete because Of budget cuts and I wasn’t able to get the class, however I still got a SGR, So maybe they didn’t care for my specific case).

Second reason, I had 34 Units transferable by spring (21 at application), You need 30 by spring (not by time of application) in order for them to not look at HS grades). In my application I wrote about how 3 of my initial 21 units should not count (Got a B in that class) because I took the class for HS graduation credit at my HS (these classes don’t transfer if taken for HS credit), putting me at 18 units at time of application, and 31 by Spring. I checked my articulation last month and apparently a class I took called Chem 151 (Preparatory Chemistry) is not articulated, which would put me at 27 units (My hs gpa was less then a 2.0 and no sat). This is weird because Chem 151 covers all of our Chem 110 (articulated) plus more as Chem110 is meant as a GE course.

So either of these could be reasons that I got denied. I was honestly heart-broken :[. Better get in this time!

@nabilesmail Thanks for clearing that up!

how many are planning to transfer as sophs and what majors are u guys planning to do?

hey I’m an international student who is planning to transfer as sophomore 2011 Fall. I got rejected by USC. Currently, I’m in college of William and Mary! I am thinking to get 3.6-3.7 GPA. Do you think I have a chance to get into USC as CAS or Marshall ?
In case, I had 3.8 GPA on high school and 2000 SAT ! I am taking total 30 credits until the end of the freshmen year ! CHANCE ME CC!!!
EC: Internship in LG CNS for 2 years every summer, 4 year rock band (had charity concert every year around Christmas), recording music for hobby, NHS in high school for two years, Korean Bible club, Korean association etc, volunteer work for 2 years of high school constantly etc.

@ nabilesmail: Thanks for that info.

Hi everyone!

Glad to see that the tradition of this USC thread lives on.

As I was saying on our own thread last year, this thread will help you transition into life at USC, meet people from the forum in real life and actually have a social circle when you start out.

Coincidentally, hellostranger57, and Kulakai and I do hang out often – as well as the majority of our thread. Keep it up guys and good luck to all!

I didnt take a math senior year (dont worry i finished 4 maths) so when I got into college i placed into college algebra :(…which is kinda like a review. Would it be okay for me to take calculus spring semester? I dont know if the college algebra will transfer.

P.S. what are the classes required to get into CLAS?

Hey guys. I applied as a freshman last year and got rejected by the School of Cinematic Arts. I guess I’m applying again for Fall 2011. I know SCA is hard to transfer into but I think it’s worth a shot. Just worried about getting the three recommendation letters…

Hey guys! I’m in my third year at CSUN and am planning on applying to USC for Fall of 11’. I emailed an admission counselor and he told me that it was advised to stay at csun and just finish there. I still have at least 3 years in school left anyway because I’ve only taken GE’s and hardly any of my major and minor reqs. Honestly, I hate it at my school, and feel the need to go to an institute of higher learning with much higher standards. I was a good student in HS but ended up at csun because of financial hardships. I’m applying as a Biology major, and Fine Arts major as a second choice. I either wanna double major or just do the minor in art. I’m a pretty good artist and it is a passion of mine, but I’m first and foremost a pre med student. My cumulative GPA is low, 3.36, but I’m working towards that 4.0 for this semester and next! I have 2 jobs, hospital volunteer experience, school EC, and participation in a summer program under my belt that have been long time dedications. I feel the need to explain that my gpa is not up to its potential because of working while my parents were unemployed for 2 years, and being so involved in other things.

So my question is, what do you think my chances are as a junior CSU to USC applicant, esp with my intended majors and GPA?

Hi everyone! I’m in my first year at UC Berkeley, but USC is my dream school. I was accepted as a freshman but just couldn’t afford it without any scholarships. I really want to major in Digital and Print Journalism in Annenberg, and I’d like to transfer as early as sophomore year. My weighted GPA at the end of HS was 4.2 and unweighted was about 3.9.
SAT: 800 W, 700 M, 680 CR
ACT: 33
I did a lot of community service in high school, and was in music for all four years. I wanted to know if I have a decent chance of 1) getting in as a transfer and 2) getting any scholarships (e.g. Town and Gown and any transfer scholarships). Thanks!

So some of you (if you applied as a freshman last year) may remember me from the USC board, specifically the SCA one. I’m REALLY organized, and I like making lists.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/854601-official-school-cinematic-arts-2014-applicants-results.html</a></p>

We had a list of at least 30-40 applicants going which made it really easy to track when each wave of acceptances came. So, I thought it would be a good idea to try and do that here. This way we have a good picture of how many people are applying.

dream- yeah we remember you from the USC thread from last year, are you applying this year also?

yes. film again.

Hi, I’m currently a student at NYU, just starting my sophomore year. I absolutely hate it here and really want to get out ASAP. I’m thinking out just withdrawing and taking a year off to possibly to some volunteer work.

I have stellar grades at NYU, my GPA after my freshman year was a 3.93. I had a lot of AP credits that carried over so I’m already almost a junior at NYU technically. In high school I had close to a 4.0 and my SATs were 800 Writing, 740 Critical Reading and 640 Math. I was student council president and captain of the varsity cross-country team.

I really just don’t fit in at NYU and have found that I don’t like NYC at all. USC was really my dream school but my parents didn’t want me to go that far away so I never applied. Now after seeing how miserable I am at NYU they are OK with me applying there.

My questions:
Will it look bad for me to take this year off and just apply as a sophomore to USC? Especially if I do some sort of volunteer work, or actual work, during my year off and I’m not just sitting around doing nothing?

What do you think my actual chances are of being accepted to USC?

and also, I know USC has a high transfer acceptance rate from California community colleges, so do you think it would be worth it for me to try to attend one of them for a semester and transfer to USC from there?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Yes, put me down as Business Administration also.

What was the average accepted GPA to Marshall last year?

I will be coming in with a 3.82 most likely, many ECs, good letters of rec, work experience in a small business.

Completed my econ portion of the prereqs in honors, and will be completing manegerial in honors next semester.

How’s it looking?

sam - what was your major at NYU? I got in for Film last year but couldn’t afford it due to their RIDICULOUS financial aid policies. :stuck_out_tongue: I was thinking of reapplying but I don’t like NYC at all, to be honest.

swag - I think you have a pretty decent chance. are you currently a sophomore? what kinds of people wrote your rec letters?

I think the average gpa for marshall is anything above 3.5.

@dream what were your stats when you applied?

since we are transfer students, i know that its not required to complete part one of the application but it is recommend it. and since we are applying as soph and we dont know our gpa and stuff
