USC 2011 Transfer Thread

@lelouch: Your HS transcript should have proof of graduation on it. This is all USC requires.

USC does not require a specific amount of units before transferring. All that is required is to complete their English and Math requirements, which can be found on your community college’s articulation agreement. If you have less than 30 transferable units however, your high school work will also be considered when the admissions committee makes a decision.

Just made a thread for this question, but then saw this thread… :X

Hi all. I am wondering if it is possibly to apply to USC for Fall 2011 without completion of Business Calc in the Spring 2011? It will be completed in Summer 2011. I have not completed Business Calc due to pre-reqs of the course in my CCC at the moment.

I am also wondering if it is possible to be a Spring 2012 admit to USC as a TRANSFER student. I’ve searched around and have only seen freshmen being admitted as Spring admits. It is because I would like to stay at my CCC to complete accounting to save some $ (if possible) before I go to USC (if I can get admitted).

Thank you for your time - it’s much appreciated!

I actually have seen transfers being admitted for spring. If business calc is a prereq for your major and it wont be done by end or spring 2011, then you might be admitted for spring if you are accepted. It doesn’t hurt to try!

Thanks everyone, you gave me a lot to think about, maybe I will apply and see what happens

Hey so I need some advice. I’m currently signed up for 20 units this semester. One of my general ed classes requires 7 books and a crap load of work…i’m also taking calc, chem, and some other classes. I feel like I should definitely drop it because I don’t want to risk getting bad grades in my other classes over this one (and I’m not too excited about spending over $500 for one class.) The thing is I already sent in my transcripts to USC so they’ll think I’m taking this class. Would it look bad if I dropped it?

Hey Everyone, new on this thread. I sent in my High School Transcripts to this address:
USC Office of Admission
Undergraduate
University Park Campus
Los Angeles, CA 90089–0911

But did not include any street number or address. Will it get there? Have People successfully sent stuff in just putting that and just that on the envelope?

Thanks alot to whoever responds.

@Billioniare Yes that should be fine. The post office delivers all the time so they are directed where to go

Well you would have a W on your transcript, but do you have a reason why you wanna drop it? If you say to concentrate on my other classes, then it would look bad. What class is it?

Do we need to a have form like the Common App Official College Report (the one that should be signed by a Dean or counselor) for USC?

Do you guys know how long or short our Short Answers need to/can be?

@CallofDuty

We’re allowed to drop classes within the first two weeks of the semester without having a W on your transcript. So I wouldn’t have a W but yeah they would definitely see that I ended up not taking it. And TBH that is my reason… on top of my work, cheer, and school schedule I just can’t handle that load. It’s a humanities class…and I could just take it at USC anyway if I get in.

omg, u guys
now i look back my senior year
i had 3.7 gpa for first semester
but second semester i had 2.9 for senior
does it gonna hurt my chance

besides that, sat is not required for transferring isnt it?
i was so dumb to the extent that i put in my real sat score in my application in usc
should I call admission officer and tell them to erase the score like they never saw it before? lol

again, my transcript say that my graduation date is 06/07/2009. Can it be my proof of graduation?

@lelouch90

I’m pretty sure you can’t ask admissions to “erase” your SAT score on your app. Whatever is on the app is what they will see and review. If you have less than 30 units they will consider your HS grades and SAT scores.

Hi everyone I am going to submit my application today, but I wanted to know about the essay length. USC says to write an essay approx. 500 - 700 words but they also say they aren’t overly concerned with length. My essay is about 417 words, but it is definitely concise. Should I try to add more? Or do you think I am fine with the word count I have.

I was also wondering how long you guys made your short answer responses.

Thanks!

Hey guys… I just read someone’s post from a while back and it kinda freaked me out. I applied for my freshman year and was rejected with a 3.55 and an ACT of 29. I admit the scores were pretty low for USC and it was expected. Now in college I will have all their GEs, eng, diversity and 1 class towards my major completed. I got a 3.8 first semester, I’m on the dance team, volunteer at habitat every week, am in the process of starting a business, and I’m on student government. Do you think I have a good chance this year? Or do you think i will probably be rejected because they want to see one more year of work?

Try to let me know! I know chances get annoying… that post just freaked me out.

Thanks guys! Good luck to all us potential trojans :)

I wrote this in the SC sub forum too but haven’t gotten a response, so I’m posting it here as well.

Do you guys know if it’s possible to do a dual degree (BA and BS) at the same time at USC?
This is assuming I don’t get into my first choice, of course…

@gwave-The only form you need to send is the one for your high school transcript.
crownofthesea- Short Answers- I’d say about 12-14 sentences.
jgirl- Alright then drop it and say that its really not needed for your major.
chapman- Depends really how well your essay is written. Mine is 694. PM me to check it.
bangkok- No one can really chance anyone. It is up to USC. If they want to see more work and are interested, they will give you a spring admission. If you get rejected, apply again.
Crownofthesea-Yes, I’m pretty sure it is possible.

shouldn’t the short answers be somewhat shorter and more concise than 12-14 sentences? I mean you also don’t want to put to much. I say a paragraph or two and move on? am i right?

Call of Duty, where are you transferring from?

Can someone answer this question pleaseeeee

Whats better considering the whole low HS record:
-Taking the GEDs and other tranferable courses meaning all the right courses which shows they were prepared, organized, committed and they know what they are doing but they dont have a great GPA
OR
-Someone who has a better GPA but didn’t take all the right courses meaning some transfer and some dont and they only took maybe like one GED course but it shows they can handle college courses but at the same time shows theyre just hanging around not committed or serious to usc by getting over the GEDs and aware of the transferable courses and instead just taking any course.

Also, @lelouch90 whats your college gpa? cause if it made good progress then USC likes that.

jaajaa20 - you may have already said this but how many credits are you transferring with? I am a junior transfer so I have over 60 credits with my GED pretty much done. I would say USC would like to see GED course and Major courses completed. However if you are trying to transfer with less credits than I would say that they would want you to concentrate on your GED stuff first then your major stuff… does that help? just tell me what you mean if that didn’t answer it.
