USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Anyone know of any reliable people on CC who give good essay feedback?

@RamboRambo You can send your transcript even after the deadline for app has passed. Just do it asap and you should be fine

For the short answers, when it says, please feel free to address your first and second choice majors selections…can we just talk about our first major?

@CallofDuty84 that’s what I did

ok, i know theres the debate about the 30 credits thing.

if i’m not sending hs record stuff since i have 30 credits in progress, do i have to put my SAT scores down on my app?

@AF1990

I sent the transcripts in already. I was talking about the Cover Sheet for the transcripts.
Is it a must that I send those in?

Do I have a chance? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1079504-transfer-chance.html#post11919880

HELP!
Does anyone know if its okay if my essay is 800 words? I know it said to be between 500-700

@Call
If you move your cursor on the essay question it tells you that “we are not overly concerned about length, but please be reasonable”- I guess my interpretation from this is that it is Okay…but if you can push it down to 750. 50 words over isn’t too bad.

To anyone worrying about the essay… do remember that it said approx. 500 -700 words meaning if you have a little less or a little more you should be fine. You need to remember that with these college application essay’s that it is about content and not length. These people read thousands and thousands of essays. As long as your not too wordy and also not someone that doesn’t give enough you will be fine.

Question for Annenberg applicants… what majors did you guys apply to?

What do you mean not sending HS record? You still need to send HS transcripts to USC. EVERY school requires you to send your HS transcript. How else would they know you graduated?

If you don’t believe me, here it is from USC’s website:

I apologize for the caps and bold but this is very important. Just because USC states if you have over 30 units they will focus on your college record, you still must send your HS transcript.

I’m having a “major” major dilemma hear. I have be at a junior level when I transfer and I’ve been following all of the prereqs for an English major. I will have a 4.0 through 59 units, 73 units completed at time of transfer, an AA in English with about nine English classes completed. However, the past year I’ve been really interested in communications. (I was going to start at SFSU as a journalism major as a Freshman 2 years ago, but decided I wanted better options.) I ended opting for English but I would really like to do double major in English (CLAS) and Communications (Annenberg). It’s also my plan for the UC’s that offer communications.

I read this from the Annenberg section of the USC catalog:
The school stresses a broad-based liberal arts education to enhance writing and reporting, and encourages undergraduate students to pursue double majors or minors in disciplines outside the school.

So I’m going to put English as my first major choice. There seems to be a lot more room to discuss things in this application as compared to the UC. Should I mention I would like to double major? Most importantly, do I have to have a letter of recommendation if Communications is my second major and Annenberg requires it? I know it would help but I kind of chose last minute to dive into the whole private college thing.

Thanks for any advice and good luck everyone!

@RamboRambo I sent my transcript in with the cover sheet. It’s been processed. The safe bet would be to call the admissions office and ask.

Whoa oooooooooooooooooooops I meant to say SAT scores. Sorrrrrry I’m getting some of my schools mixed up.

Anyways, since USC will weigh HS scores less if you have 30 credits in progress (right?), does that mean I don’t have to list my SAT scores on the APP since I’m not sending them in?

Hey everyone! I’ve been hearing that some freshman applicants have already gotten acceptance letters!! :X

When is the earliest a transfer will hear back?

I believe transfers hear back around June or so.

@AF1990

Yeah I’ll call and ask. Thanks!

@chapmanpanther 3 I am applying to Annenberg for communications!

@indierocknroll It probably would be best to have a letter of rec for Annenberg because it is a required part of the application. It’s better to be safe than sorry even though it’s your second choice major.

heyy sportslover what did you write your essay about?

Just sent in my application- I really thought I would feel a sense of relief, but Instead I just get more anxious!
