so its finally over! does anyone know any shortcuts to finding out admission decisions earlier than they release? i think someone posted something about that months ago on this thread

Yes. It’s called the backdoor method. There is no need for it right now though. One is is way too early. And two all it does it cause anxiety.

SO…When will we hear about this…“backdoor method”???

oh…MitchaPalooza you know the anxiety has BEEN here since the applications were turned in! lol

Lol. You’re right. But this just adds more anxiety. Trust me. I remember last year I used to constantly check CC to see about the status updates and if a new “batch” or “wave” of decisions was being released. It just added that much more anxiety.

I’ll post the method in a few weeks. There’s no point in doing it now since your applications have not been processed.

I’m not sure if I will keep up with my status updates too much…I’m an anxious person as it is.

LOL ok…If you say so. And I check mine 2-3 times a day…I’m really psycho…you don’t have to tell me, I already know…LOL:-/

From experience last year there were two ways to see if you were accepted. The backdoor method which will be posted at a later time and the statuses. It wasn’t so much the message of the statuses but the progression and speed of which they changed. I’m trying to recall how they progressed and I’ll be sure to post.

Of course there were also applicants who the backdoor method and who’s statuses never changed and were accepted.

But should we be seeing a rapid change in status now?

Noo. Way too early. Comparing with last year, a small percentage of Freshman applicants should start hearing about now. These are the top of the top and who have been awarded Presidential Scholarship, etc. They usually hear first.

Transfers won’t hear for sometime. Most likely until after April 1 when all the Freshman decisions have been sent out. Remember schools take care of 1st year applicants and then transfers.

Well…I find that extremely unfair! Especially considering my current state of mind! LOL

Lol. Yeah. Understandable.

Alright so here is the thing with the statuses. Keep in mind this is speculation and there is no “proof” but the observable trends support this reasoning. This is the same exact reasoning used last year so unless USC changed their status system all should be the same.

As I previously stated, it is not the message of the status but rather how they progress. For example, the progression should look something like this:
to…
to… (this is important) The time between forwarded to the next status seemed to determine admission. A quick turn around meant admission. A long wait meant denial.
The last status also was sometimes replaced by “The committee has acted on your application.” Once again it was the time between the statuses.

Some of you may be wondering why would it go to being reviewed to once again reviewed by a committee. It has been speculated that first your application is reviewed to make sure it is completed, ie have transcripts, etc. If not you will most likely receive a status saying you are missing paper work. Once completed the application will be sent to the committee. For example, if you applied to Marshall they will then decide on it. Then that decision is sent back to USC and the letter will be printed out.

Another thing observed is USC seems to always print their letters on a Friday. Don’t ask why. haha.

So take for example a transfer applicant to Marshall last year.

Let’s take a look at ilovemtsac.

Her app was “forwarded to committee review” on b - Marshall**

Her app was then “acted upon by the committee” on b - Marshall - Accepted**

As you can see it only took 4 days for the committee to make a decision. A quick turn around in status is a good indication of acceptance. Also, this is verified since ilovemtsac just posted that she received their package. On the other hand if it took 3 weeks or more to change then one can speculate this means rejection.

I applied for freshman last year and I had my status forwarded to the committee sometime in early March. However, it did not update with the acted upon status until nearly the end of March. I knew this was a rejection. Just keep in mind this all speculation, so it’s up to you if you want to believe it, but generally the trends have been correct.

So that is the story of the statuses. It is a bit confusing but don’t worry. As you can see from her date of acceptance she did not find out until May, so you guys have some time. I apologize if my grammar or spelling is off. It’s been a long day.

Hello everyone, I am currently at a California community college near San Francisco and am hoping/planning to attend the Fall 2012 semester at a four-year Southern California college after transfer.

I am currently researching CSUs, UCs and private schools in the LA region and came across the UCLA. The college looks great! And would love to attend, if I’m admitted that is!

The major I intend on applying for at UCLA is Communication. I know for a fact that gaining admission as Communication major is extremely competitive, but I’m going for it anyway! By the time I apply later this year for Fall 2012 admission I hope to be done with all communication prerequisites (Mass Media of Communication, Linguistics, Sociology, Psychology, Politics, Statistics, Speech and Economics).

But I’m still having my doubts. I’ve actually taken 3+ anthropology classes already and have enjoyed them all! So would it be a better idea to apply as an anthropology major for transfer to UCLA instead of a communications major, and then if admitted try to switch/change over?

In broader terms, what are my chances of being able to change majors from anthropology to communications? Would it be that hard even though they’re both in the college of letters and sciences? How would I go about doing this?

Any information, suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

@shaunsheezy

USC or UCLA?

Oh crap! TYPO! My bad! I meant UCLA in the title!

Did anyone else’s supplemental materials end up looking messed up after they viewed the uploaded documents? I tried uploading several times, and every time like over half of the personal statement was all slanted like italics, so I ended up uploading it as is. I’m really worried about it. Did anyone else get this weird slanty italics effect?

lol shaunsheezy, be careful about getting UCLA and USC mixed up! It could cost you your life
jk, but there was a stabbing or two at UCLA v USC game

And woahhhhh isn’t this way too early to be seeing if they updated the statuses? And to check the status, do we just go to Admission Documents, and it’ll say? Mine just has a list of all of the received documents…?

Ugh. They still haven’t received my college transcript. I paid 4 dollars for that crap to be sent out by my college so they better get it!

USC isn’t even my first choice but I’m ridiculously nervous. I need to get out of my current school. Engineering schools suck. No girls =/

Also, what are the chances that they request for Spring Semester grades? I have a 3.7 GPA right now, but I really don’t think it’ll stay up there after this semester. My state of mind is so messed up, I can’t think straight.

I haven’t even signed into my account since I submitted my application and you guys are checking your statuses twice a day!?!?! :)
