USC 2011 Transfer Thread

@Mitch

Yeah I loved it my first year, but this year I’ve pretty much hated it. The social scene is lacking and I am not impressed with the academics anymore. Literally I have had at least one teacher a semester who can not teach and I’m sick of paying ridiculous tuition to teach myself

My GPA was a measly 3.4 last year and only had 15 units, how could I be borderline? shouldnt I have been denied immediately?

transferguy- are you a sophomore or junior transfer?

junior if all the units transfer

And you applied as a sophomore last year? for what major?

I have no idea what I am applying as…I mean, I will have 42 units by the end of spring so would that be a sophomore? Like I said earlier, it doesn’t matter because of the Screenwriting program, but still. I wonder. I just really hope they take the transcript updates into account. Really, really do. I want them to see 30 units, not 15.

THIS WAITING SUCKS! Today I was in a sports store and the USC stuff was pretty cheap. Like, there were nice thick sweatshirts with golden hoods and media pockets for only 25 dollars. That’s really, really cheap. But I told myself no USC gear until I get in to USC. :frowning: Waiting if not for the decision, but to buy a bunch of USC stuff.

Haha ^ I feel the same. No getting my new era fitted USC hat until I’m accepted :)

Anyone who’s taken the tour, do they require some time for notice? Or can I make the tour appointment the day-of?

Long-story short my dad just found out he can get the day off tomorrow to take the tour with me, but their offices have been closed and open back up tomorrow. And their link to make a reservation online doesn’t seem to be working.

@COD I applied last year as open, I think what ended up leading to my denial was I got a W during my spring semester in a math class, this is my third time applying and I am a legacy as my mother attended in the 80’s and aunt transferred and graduated from SC

49 units at the time of application submission, 67 by the end of spring, and some AP credits.
Does that make me a sophomore or junior applicant?

If accepted it’ll most likely say sophomore status. However, once you send in your final transcript USC will update to junior status. This was the case last year looking through the stats thread.

Transferguy: did you sign up for the Trojan Transfer Plan by any chance?

No, however coming out of high school I had a meeting with one of the counselors at usc and they mapped out the classes that I should take, last June I also attended a usc transfer information session, I don’t know if it helps my cause

@ Transferguy-

I really think the last semester/quarter is the most important. It is an opportunity to boost up your GPA from fall… that could have been the cause of it? What GPA did you get in the Spring? Did you complete the English requirement?

@james- I have heard about the TTP… does it give you an advantage?

Spring I got a 3.667 but I only had 10 units, I completed two semesters of English and have fulfilled all requirements except the foreign language I only have two semesters of spanish

Still freaking out and still have questions.

How much weight do you think they’ll put on the fact that I’m taking mostly junior level classes this semester (5 out of my 7 classes this semester are 300-level courses, and I’m pretty sure I’m the only sophomore physics major at my school in them) and if the request Spring grades and my grades aren’t as high as my earlier grades (I have a 3.7 currently) will it hurt me or help me? Will they say “Oh, he’s taking harder courses so it’s better” or will they say “He’s an idiot. Why is he taking hard courses?”?

transferguy: I believe that was the TTP that you attended coming out of high school. You were supposed to keep in contact with your counselor and update them with how well you were doing in school as well as following their guideline.

Mitch: My counselor told me during the TTP that as long as I followed their guideline of classes I should be taking in order to get into Marshall, as well as maintaining a 3.6 GPA, that I would have a HIGH chance of getting in. I talk to my counselor very often so I’m sure that can only help my chances.

coolio - I’m sure it won’t hurt you that you’re taking such hard courses, but they’ll also be wondering why you’re taking these hard courses in the first place. you should do whatever you can to maintain a high gpa at your current university and then focus on the hard classes if/when you transfer into USC.

@jamesbball911

I didn’t know you were part of the TTP. It’s different. Are you legacy? It is mostly for legacy students who did not get in their freshman year. Counselors then meet with that applicant and lay out the groundwork to transfer. It’s almost like a guaranteed transfer admission similar to what Cornell does. That is why their CC transfer numbers are inflated.

Like I said it is mostly for legacy, but there have been cases of other people having been invited. I assume this does help. Just comparing numbers from last year, almost everyone who was accepted to Marshall had a GPA upwards in the 3.8 range.

For folks who are not legacy (like my D), you can confer by phone or e-mail with USC about what is likely to transfer & what will not to help with course selection. That was very helpful for us and we believe it helped D get accepted as a transfer.

I am not a legacy, but my mom does work there and I did get the TTR on my rejection letter. I did attend the workshop as well. My personal counselor was promoted to director at CLAS and I have not been able to contact him since.

@MitchAPalooza - You aren’t saying that TTR is guaranteed right? Also, what do you mean CC transfer numbers are inflated?
