USC 2011 Transfer Thread

What about campus housing for transfers? Can we apply now or do we have to wait for acceptance/rejection?

@stingrays91

USC statuses are very unreliable. I would not worry too much. Give it some time for them to update the status. If in a week or two the status is the same, go ahead and give them a call. But like I said their statuses are very unreliable and unpredictable so I would not read too much into.

I remember from last year’s thread people submitted housing application’s early. I think you could only proceed to a certain point but what I got from it was if you submitted it earlier you had an advantage over those who did not. I would have to look again to find those posts. If I do, I’ll post them.

Thanks Mitch!

I was looking through some threads from last years as well, and couldn’t really find too much info on it. I was also wondering which housing options are better for transfers and whatnot, because I’m assuming most of us don’t wanna room with freshman…

Mitch, thank you. I’ll just give them a call monday to get it over with.

The funny thing is I submitted all of my documents almost two months ago, and at the time, my status said We have received your application, and it appears that we do not need any more documents at this time. Now, that’s not the case.

I looked a bit and found this:

However, applicants have to understand that the chances are very slim. On-campus housing for transfers is very very very very rare. The majority go on to live in off-campus apartments.

Another hint I would suggest is to start early. You do not want to find out in late May early June of your acceptance only to rush to find housing. People applied for housing but they were looking for apartments off-campus.

The links below had information concerning housing for transfers.

Apartments are better anyway.

Thanks again Mitch! I’ve been searching CC and only found a few links to the on campus housing. I will definitely be looking for a place off-campus (that was the plan original anyway). Thanks again Mitch

If I’m accepted that is…:-/

Everyone, I’ve been read threads from 09 and 10. I must say, let the stress really begin. Haha I’m so nervous, I’m really thankful that this form is here and we all have each other!

April is when some of us will be hearing…from 09 and 10 a couple of people heard in April.

I too am thankful for the support of this forum  It would be cool if we could all just get into the same apartment complex. Haha

Yeah, for all those who have low GPA, work on good trends. I was reading some threads and some girl got in for Political Science last year. She went from a 3.3 3.4 to a 3.58. Some girl also dropped from a 3.6 to a 3.0 and was still accepted for the Spring though. Hopefully the ECs and essay will show who we really are.
syd- Yeah, I’m just excited to party at SC! Finally some Greek life! I might even rush.

I have no intentions of going Greek. My major is so intense that people in it can’t double major, so more likely than not I won’t have time for parties/charity work/everything else Greek Life has to offer. I need to spend the little free time I have making connections in the SCA haha.

So yeah, if anyone is looking for a mellow roommate after we all get in…hit me up :D

Assuming I get accepted and go to USC, I’m gonna be screwed. I know NO ONE in or around LA. And physics, my major, isn’t really the best place to look for friends. Haha I don’t mean to be a dick or anything, but the other physics majors here at my school are too nerdy for my taste. First few weeks are going to suck, especially because I’m pretty shy when around new people.

Don’t want to get ahead of myself though. I’ve already been devastated 2 years ago when applying to schools =(

@coolio: You’ll be fine with finding housing. USC offers some help with off-campus housing and I’m sure some people here at CC will be helping each other out.

I know what you’re saying as far as relating to people in your major. All the film majors at my school are too into independent/foreign and serious films for my taste and seem so snobby. So I’d be perfectly fine not rooming with another film major haha. My best friend is a Soc major. Totally different :P

I think as long as your friendly and make an effort to make friends, etc you should be fine. Try going out to club meetings, rushing (if it is for you), sport events, etc. If you do this then you should be fine. If you do not show your face around campus then how do you expect to make friends?

Plus, I think it is an advantage. Think about it. I can go up to a group of people (preferably girls haha) and say I’m new. I just transferred from a small school, blah, blah, can you show me around? Haha. Perfect.

You just can’t be shy. Need to get out.

The key is just not thinkin about it, and being who you are  Sounds corny, but it is true. Just go with the flow and talk to people.

I’m thankful to find all the helpful information I need from this forum too, thank you guys  I read '09 and '10 threads of USC transfer too and got way too excited as if I were the one who was accepted/rejected/SGRed…

Like sydney said, it’s right around the corner before we hear something from USC, let’s hope that we all will hear some good news soon! (and my high-school transcript seriously better show up online in a week or two…!)

Btw, I major in psychology, planning to minor (if possible) in substance abuse prevention. Can’t wait to be a real Trojan… Fight on!

Amen whisper! Haha, and seriously, for all you sophomore transfers we still got another year if we get rejected. Any English majors out here??

I’ll be going into English if SCA Screenwriting rejects me.

And if I will be able to transfer into screenwriting as a current usc student…so kinda.

Yay! My status changed to “We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time…” Feels weird, as if it really starts now.

Haha snowboard, mine’s been like that for more than a month now. Depressing seeing that every day.
