USC 2011 Transfer Thread

I’ve always wondered how people can judge their own essays as “strong” or not strong. I mean, I always think my own essays are strong (I wouldn’t be content with one that I deemed crappy) but that doesn’t mean other people think it’s strong (or the admissions people, anyway).

Also, does anyone have any advice regarding my problem on the last page. They still haven’t responded (it had to do with getting credit for a college class in French when I was in High School). And my status is STILL “We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time…”. I’m getting ridiculously nervous.

Callofduty,

Do you think a 4.0 with completion of all pre-requisites, recommended courses, and general ed courses would be enough to get into Marshall, or are they known to only consider people with good ECs? I’ve completed these courses as of the last fall semester, and I’m now working on upper division courses.

@MitchAPalooza

Thanks for that. Do you know when the university reviews us for admission as opposed to our specific schools?

@whisper11

I’m a scholarship baby all the way (ie parents aren’t contributing the EFC anyway) . If the funds ain’t right, I’m sittin’ tight. Have you looked into the scholarships that are offered through USC? You actually have to apply separately for some of them.

@andrew77

Knowing what we think your chances are isn’t really going to be of much help to you, unless you’re looking for a sense of validation, but because you said that’s not what you want to hear and I want you to feel welcome in this thread, I can tell you one thing: Your credentials are not as impressive as many of the Viterbi stats I’ve seen on this forum (but then this forum typically consists of a small pool of strong applicants).

Wow, I haven’t been on here in a long time… are people experiencing status changes??

Mine still says they “need additional information” and that my transcript isn’t there. -___- already contacted them about it and really wish it would update because I’m getting anxious…

Just caught up – exciting. I don’t know if you guys want to do this, but last year in the SCA thread I had a list going of everyone’s status progressions that pretty much let us figure out who was getting accepted by the end. So if anyone is interested, just dig up that old list with all of our majors on it and we can attach it onto there. :wink: We can do like “add info” > “reviewing” > “forwarded” > “acted on” or something similar.

DIG is right! The most recent one I came up with was post #589! Time to update!!!

mine hasn’t changed at all yet either. my visit there last week was good, now I really can’t wait haha

i emailed my regional counselor a week ago and still haven’t heard back :frowning: i know they’re busy but a Viterbi counselor and the counselor who ran my info session both responded almost instantly.

@alamemom, I’m not cool enough to be on there =(

Panther, do you mind which outside scholarships you applied for? Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought that if you receive outside scholarships, USC will deduct the money from their FA package and give you less (so you still need to find a way to fill your EFC?)

I called the admission today and it seems like my admission decision could be delayed/notified later than most CLAS people due to my high-school transcript situation (name change after marriage/could only submit “certificate of graduation” instead of a transcript due to my foreign high-school’s unreasonable policy to not issue transcripts to those who graduated more than a few years ago).

deltron, I was told by some counselor that most counselors are attending some kind of events at this time (how conveniently) and probably are not in their offices but they should have received our emails and reply back to us as soon as possible. I’m waiting on mine for a week too.

I meant to say do you mind telling me which outside scholarships you applied for.

@whisper

If you don’t plan on taking out any loans, then no, the scholarship amounts will just add up and you may even have a surplus (I refuse to take out loans and haven’t yet even though my current school costs 43,000.00 a year). At least, that’s how it’s worked for me- I always have a surplus amount because scholarships are covering EVERYTHING. The schools that I’ve gone to don’t decrease the scholarship and grant award, if that’s what you’re asking, but the size of the loans might suffer.

I’d rather not disclose all of the scholarships I’m applying/have applied for, just because that wouldn’t be smart on my part, but you are all intelligent enough to take advantage of internet resources. I mostly get my leads from FastWeb and USC’s financial aid website, but there are various student groups that have their own scholarships as well, and every little bit counts! As a matter of fact, it’s quite easy to scoop up the 250-500 dollar scholarships because most people don’t make the effort for those amounts.

I called the admissions office today (surprise!) and MitchAPalooza seems to be right about the statuses. The counselor I spoke with said that my status simply means they are looking over my application to make sure that everything is in order for final review. That may just mean that the “We are reviewing your application,” status might precede a “no additional information required” status. Hmm… who knows. I’m just going to try and get this off my mind. SPRING BREAK 2011 BABYYY!!!

Anyone else have this status:

“We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. You may submit them at USConnect by clicking “mid-year grade reports”, or by visiting www.usc.edu/midyeargrades. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly”

@alamemom

mind adding me? :smiley: … i’m going in undeclared

and @dreamupsided0wn … i’m in the same boat! they have all my stuff but the status still says “we need additional information…” i check it like 50 times a day. going insane!

@snowboard:

That’s what I’ve had for the past 3 weeks or so? Before that mine said I was missing information, but they received my document like a day later :)

Why doesn’t our statuses say anything about transfers and others’ do?

snowboard mine says that aswell

my status is still:
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.

coolio2244242 - I am not even cool enough to bring the list up, but I did it anyhow!

hyethga4lyfe - do what panther13 did in post #1912 - copy thge entire list, add your name in the appropriate place, and post.

***This is dreamupsided0wn’s brainstorm - she had a similar list for SCA admissions last year and it did an impressive job of predicting admissions as the statuses began to change. She’ll generally pop in and tidy the thread if you ask her to add your name!

I hope they all say “admitted” by this June!
