USC 2015 Spring Admits, Class of 2018

I've just been accepted into my top school (USC), although I was accepted into the spring semester (January) of 2015 rather than the fall semester of 2014.
I'm making this discussion so other spring students can have a place to ask questions (I have questions as well) and understand how to interpret this proposition.
It says that about 300 students accepted this offer before so it makes me honored to have been given the opportunity, but I want to fully understand what it entails.

:) I just posted some info on another thread, so I’ll go ahead and start you off with some info. This is not official or complete, just what I can remember from previous years. The passage below was in response to a PM question earlier today.

did any spring admits have the unknown/unknown on their FA portal thing?

What is the unknown/unknown thing?

My son is a spring admit and he was Undergrad/Undecided.

What is the FA portal? Is that linked to the USConnect?

I’m officially a Broadcast Journalism Major

I had unknown unknown and got spring admit to marshall

Does enrolling in Spring mean you graduate a semester late? Or can you make up for the credits? How does it exactly work? Are my classmates going to be ahead of me content-wise?

In general, Spring admits can graduate with their class (in other words, at the same time they would have had they entered in the Fall). Strategies to accomplish this include (but are not limited to): having sufficient AP units (a max of 32 units - a full year’s worth of credit - is available for scores of 4 or 5) to make up the shortfall, taking general education community college courses (make SURE they transfer for GE credit) during the fall, taking the max 18 units included in flat-rate tuition each semester (128 units is required for most majors, so taking 18 each semester for 7 semesters gets you within 2 units of that - if you have 1 AP class or take 1 community college course, you are potentially there), studying abroad through one of USC’s available programs for Fall (follow the URL included in your Spring admit info), by taking courses each summer at your local community college (pre-approval is required), enrolling in a 4-year that accepted you for the Fall and getting GE units there… so many options!

My son is a Spring admit. We already booked an appointment with his USC adviser to talk about the Study Abroad program and courses he wants to take during the Summer and Fall. Right now it looks like he will take a Sociology (Diversity requirement) course and C++ programming at our community college in the Summer and then 4 Gen Ed/Writing courses in Study abroad in the Fall. I believe if you do the Study abroad it actually makes you a Fall admit but, of course, you are taking classes somewhere else.

I have just been accepted for the spring 2015 semester for Viterbi School of Engineering! My question about being admitted for spring is about how the housing would work? If anyone know anything I would really appreciate it!

Also this page is helpful for any other Viterbi spring admits: http://viterbinotes.usc.edu/2014/03/28/springadmit2015/

Here is a very informative USC Admissions blog post from last year regarding Spring admission:

USC created a Facebook page just for Spring admits. It has several upper class men as participants who can answer questions and provide perspective. My son joined and has already started talking to some of the Spring Trojans.

My daughter is in the Trojan Marching Band and Spring admits are allowed to join and participate in the fall semester (there was one this past fall). So if any Spring admit is a potential band member and will be in the area, this would be a great way to get involved!

FYI - My daughter was a Spring admit 2 years ago but luckily bumped to the fall semester. I believe the notice came the first Friday in May. She was prepared to start in the Spring, joined a very active Facebook page and attended “Admitted Students Day”. I don’t know how many were bumped that year or any year but it’s a possibility. She was “undecided” in Dornsife so that might be easier than some of the other schools.

Hello, can Spring Admits attend any events other than football that fall admits can enjoy? Fall orientation???

Spring Admits have their own orientation closer to their start date.

Anyone in the Dornsife? So Cal people?

My roommate and I are looking to transfer the lease on our apartment starting in January 2015, for anyone looking at housing! It’s a 1 bedroom 2 person apartment close to the row and about a 5 minute walk from campus.

@mrpostman, my daughter is in Dornsife and from So Cal. We just leased a unit at Gateway for the fall semester, so she’ll live there and go to Santa Monica City College the first semester. Have you checked out the FB page?

@anotherlamemom That is good to hear. Yes, FB page has been very helpful and meeting people on there too. Does your daughter already have roommates for spring by any chance? Transferring Sophomore student from O.C.
