[] Comments: USC is my dream school and the only school that mattered to me when I applied last fall semester. They sent me an SGR despite having a perfect GPA, so I really can’t say that you should only prioritize your GPA over extracurriculars and essay. Nonetheless, I’m so happy that I got in! Good luck to those who read this and FIGHT ON!
@giakhanhngo123 For anyone reading this post in the future, I already posted my stats previously, but since I can’t edit, I just wanted to say that I found out AFTER June 1st (about two weeks after, to be exact) that I had not been admitted to Annenberg for Comm. However, I was able to easily switch my major (the process was quite stressful though, at least for my situation).

[] ECs listed on app: high school/club sport, both jobs, charity I run
[] Job/Work Experience: 2 jobs, 2 years for one 1 year for the other
[] Essays (subject and responses): Common App Question: I felt “out of place” in junior college, really dreamed of going to USC out of high school and knew I could keep up with USC coursework; for the USC one which asked about my major: I said my major was unique and USC’s program could provide me with the tools I need for a future job; for the other USC supplemental (don’t remember the prompt): I said that being at a junior college was a great learning experience for me, as I had to learn to adapt to the school which was vastly different from my high school
[] Letters of Recommendation: One from a family friend (alum, donor), and one from my high school AP teacher; honestly I don’t think either helped because they were the same ones I used when applying from high school but they rolled over to be in my transfer app too.

[] Other schools applied to: None. USC or bust, baby. Never wanted to go anywhere else.
[] Comments: Both of my parents went to USC. I had a 3.4 and a 30 ACT out of high school and I got offered the TTP in my denial letter. USC was the only college I applied to out of high school, and I pretty much banked on transferring from a JuCo if I didn’t get in initially. I got a 3.4 my first semester. That’s why I got a SGR. Got a 3.8 the second semester and ended up on the honor roll. I got accepted two days later. As a TTP student, the admissions counselor pretty much tells you that all they care about is your grades. The rest of your app should still look good though. Dreams do come true people.

[] Units completed: 37 semester units (by the end of spring) + 32 AP credits
[] Units in progress: 14 (spring semester)
[] Pre-reqs completed: All (English (completed fall semester), Calculus (AP test); also completed Financial and Managerial Accounting, Micro and Macro econ (these aren’t pre-reqs but recommended for Marshall transfers)
[] GEs completed: 6/8 (only have the 2 mandatory classes to take at USC left), was completing 2 GEs in the spring

[] ECs listed on app: FBLA from HS (went to nationals), some part-time jobs (really not much, I don’t think ECs play a big role)
[] Job/Work Experience: Nothing significant to my major
[] Essays (subject and responses): For the supplement about something outside my academic focus, I talked about how I want to minor in computer programming and my interest in that. For the one about how I’ll pursue my interest, I talked about clubs I would join as a Marshall student. For the common app essay, I talked about why I chose CC, how I benefitted from it, what I’m looking for at USC and how I’d get it.
[] Letters of Recommendation: 2 (1 from econ prof., 1 from accounting prof.)
[/ul]Other:

[] Other schools applied to: USC OR BUST (don’t do this, as much as you love USC just don’t. If you end up waiting a long time like me, you’re gonna regret not applying to more schools.) I’m glad it worked out for me though and I couldn’t be happier to attend my dream school <3.
[li] Comments: Super excited to be a Trojan!!! The wait was really long for me, but I’m hyped for the future. [/li]Some tips: try to finish pre-reqs during Fall so you have a lesser chance of getting SGRd (if you’re a soph. transfer, you’re almost guaranteed to get SGRd). Your #1 focus should be GPA and taking the right classes. The more GEs you complete, the better. Some classes count for 2 GE categories (like international relations). Email your admissions counselor ahead of time with any questions you have. Proofread your essay! Fight on!

I mentioned my fascination in engineering since childhood. I talked about how much I enjoy the USC community and how I’d like to be part of it and help others.
[]Letters of Recommendation: I got two letters, one of which was a former professor at USC and had received their graduate degree at USC. They are an English professor, not STEM, but they are great with writing and have experience with the school. My other letter was from my college algebra teacher who’s been sort of a mentor. She graduated from UC Berkeley and is very enthusiastic about helping students.

[]Comments: I’m on the lower end of the GPA scale, so I really think it was my essays, letters, and spring performance that got me in. I got all A’s in spring except for Physics. I’ve wanted to go to USC since I was in junior high and I have a cousin who just graduated from USC, so it wasn’t hard for me to come up with great essays as to why I wanted to go. You really need to stand out with this school and they really help you with that by offering a good amount of writing opportunities in the application. For all the schools I applied to, USC offered the most writing in their app. I’m kinda bothered it took so long for me to hear back since I was a spring grade request, but hey I still got in.

[] Other schools applied to: UCLA(rejected, pre-reqs not completed), UCSB (accepted), SJSU (accepted), CSUN, (accepted)
[] Comments: Like what everyone else has said, complete those pre-reqs and try to get A’s in them. As a transfer, I think your GPA is the most important aspect of your application. However, having a 4.0 doesn’t mean you are guaranteed admission. I had a D in precalc my first year of CC which brought my GPA down a lot. Couldnt do academic renewal so I had to go all out on my essays, which imo is the second most important aspect. Try to make them about you and how you fit to what they are looking for in a student (read their mission/vision statements). My GPA was average (3.64 when I applied, 3.7 after spring) but I think my essays really helped my application. I was also in touch with my admission counselor throughout the whole process. In all, USC was just a dream school to me back in high school, but thanks to my hard work and dedication, I will be a Trojan in January. Fight on!

Essays (subject and responses): This I believe was crucial to my acceptance just because I still have yet to complete one pre-req. I went and asked many people for advice and worked pretty hard on them (changed them about 4-5 times). I chose the essay that asks about diversity and I talked about how I have grown up in such a diverse environment and my transition from private to public school. In the essay on “why USC?” I talked about all the amazing programs and resources and how it will help me become a successful businesswoman. The last one I can’t remember
Letters of Recommendation: My English professor who has helped me with this whole process she is amazing
OTHER:
Other schools applied to: Only USC
Comments: I was rejected right out of high school (I had pretty bad grades a 3.2 GPA) and my English teacher told me I will not get into USC because it is competitive so did many other people but that didn’t stop me from getting into my dream college so just put in the effort!!! I do agree with everyone, your grades are really important and know what prereqs you need to take in order to transfer. Also, get at least two people to read your essays (not more than 3 in my opinion or it’ll be a mess). This advice is also really important, DO NOT keep your focus on one school look into others and what their requirements are because you never know what the case may be. Just put in hard work and I promise it will pay off! Fight on!
