USC Acceptance

<p>Do you guys think that the USC would accept me? Btw I'm a junior now
GPA: 3.65 (unweighted)
SAT: 1340
ACT: 25
100+ hours of community service
4 years varsity lacrosse
3 year cross country
3 years swim team
Honors</p>

<p>Really depends.
If I were you I would raise those scores to at least a 2000/30
However my brother was accepted with a 1690 on his SAT and I was with a 30 on my ACT.
It never hurts to apply, if you cant raise your scores just write a really kick-ass essay and hope for the best</p>

<p>95% it’ll be no</p>

<p>Not unless you’re somehow an athletic recruit…</p>

<p>I would think that athletics would be your only ticket into USC, if I’m being perfectly honest. Your GPA and test scores are all quite low–the middle 50% of admitted students this year was a 30-34 on the ACT and 2060-2200 on SAT with an average GPA of 3.8. If you can somehow raise your GPA and test scores (significantly) I suppose you might have a shot, but bear in mind that admission will continue to be more and more competitive each year. </p>

<p>BTW, a 30 ACT is in the middle 50% of USC’s admitted stats (as I’ve already stated) and is NOT comparable to a 1690 on the SAT. So hidalgo, your admittance is not too much of a surprise, though a 1690 SAT seems extremely low, and your brother most likely had special circumstances/outstanding attributes.</p>

<p>i got into USC with a 3.8 unweight gpa and a 26 for ACT. You want to get great recommendations so get close to some teachers and have a great essay.</p>

<p>So I retook the ACT and got a 30 and retook the SAT AND got a 1650. Better chances?</p>

<p>Your stats are clearly well below the average admission statistics. The 30 on the ACT is satisfactory. I would advise that you take the ACT one more time after a significant amount of practice and aim for a 33+ (should be easier than raising GPA to 3.8). </p>

<p>I recommend that you just focus on only the ACTs, as the 1340 and 1650 on the SAT is, quite frankly, horrible. You are obviously more comfortable with the ACT for one reason or another. </p>

<p>Nothing special about your listed ECs (unless you can go pro with a sport). Essays and recs will be really important, and it would help if you tell us any other “hooks” you might have.</p>

<p>USC states that its average acceptance gpa is around a 3.8:</p>

<p>[Freshman</a> Profile - USC Undergraduate Admission](<a href=“http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/fresh_profiles.html]Freshman”>http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/fresh_profiles.html)</p>

<p>So, you’re gpa is below the average, but it doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance. Your ACT score looks about right, so that’s not something to worry too much about now. As for your ECs go, your involvement in varsity sport will likely help a lot, as well as your course rigor if you took honors/AP. Take your time to write really good essays and getting some recommendations wouldn’t hurt.</p>

I applied to USC with the same scores as you basically, plus im going into the film department, do you think i have a shot

As for evaluating yourself as an applicant to USC or any competitive college or university, I recommend first reviewing the following excellent thread on this topic…

good luck

@filmgirl101 Film is a bit different. Your portfolio is the #1 thing considered. If you have a great portfolio, you stand a good shot at being admitted even if your stats are below USC’s averages.

@filmgirl101 True… SCA is different – to a degree. Your portfolio is paramount to SCA… but USC generally has to agree to accept you as well. This is true in nearly all instances… you are being reviewed and potentially accepted twice - by the School and by USC. If your stats are below USC’s averages, SCA may have to be willing to really pull for you to overcome reluctance by USC Admission. But good luck…

WWWard is correct. USC’s admissions office has the final say in deciding who is accepted. Of course you’d need the support of the Cinema School if you expect to be accepted into one of their programs, but every year there are kids that they-and all the other schools-want to accept that don’t get it. And yes, while the portfolio is very important, most all of the film school admits have awesome portfolios AND really strong academic records. USC’s applicant pool is just that deep. Good luck!

Thread is almost 5 years old. best to start a new one rather than have people reading through outdated posts that may have old info within.
