USC accounting prereqs

So I am currently attending Cerritos College and wanted to know what are the prerequisites for the accounting major at USC. Where can I find out the prereqs needed for transfer.

Thank you.

Ummm not a USC student but I applied and I will tell you what I know, first you will need to transfer to USC Marshall as a business major, THEN after a semester you take adjoined accounting and if you get a B+ and above on that course and all your other classes the first semester you get transferred into Leventhal. The prereq’s for Marshall are on the USC site and your CC site should have articulation agreement to USC being a California CC I believe. Also take financial and managerial accounting and get A’s so you can take the adjoined accounting course at USC or else you need 2 semesters of accounting before you can transfer from Marshall to Leventhal. GL

-Source ME ! not 100% / Prospective Accounting Major at USC

I know there is some sort of articulation agreement you have to follow that shows which classes from your CC transfer to USC, but you know how it says CATEGORY I CATEGORY II etcetera…Do you finish just one class out of every category or all the classes that are listed? Moreover, what are the classes needed to transfer as a business major?

For the Categorys I II and V and Diversity and what not just do 1 course from each, Reason Being is that those classes are for you to GRADUATE USC, rather pay less and take them at CC then go into USC and waste more money, so do as many as possible or if not all. ALSO take your Eng Comp and English 2 which is Creative or Anylitical righting w/e and ALSO Calc I or Business Calc finish these all before you apply so that you won’t have a hassle of SGR. You should also take Financial and Managerial Accounting. Remember to keep your GPA at 3.7 or higher, being that Marshall is Competitive. GL !

Pre. Req’s u need to apply to Marshall. IF you have completed, managerial Accounting and financial accounting at CC, then u will have to take BUAD 305 and receive a grade a of B or better to get into Marshall.

The categories u r talking about are USC General education requirements. U need to finish those to graduate. When u transferring in there are 2 additional categories u will need to finish to graduate plus your upper level writing requirement (WRITING 340).

I am a current USC student, i transferred in Fall 2012 from OCC. If u have any questions or anything, ill do my best to help.

@ Transfer2OI3 - I was born of two immigrant Honduran parents, one of which I no longer know, and my mom makes under 10k a year. We actually live just 3 blocks from USC in south central in the gutter. Moreover, I am a first generation college student and to be honest no one in my family has ever even thought about going to college. I have a 3.94 GPA and am planning on finishing the prereqs by spring 2014. Do you think I have a shot? I am a very passionate writer, but my EC’s are off. I am a weirdo and cannot socialize since i use to gangbang. What would you suggest me to do? I know my GPA isn’t sufficient to get me in.

@ HelloG - Man, that’s amazing you’re in there. I am driving my spirit and heart to make it there next year. I need to apply this year with everything completed in order to have a shot next year to attend correct? Is there any advice you can give me?

Thank you both!

No you don’t need anything done to be admitted actually, but it can’t hurt. Plus classes at USC are expense. If u break it down its about (+$1500 a unit). So its better to finish all that stuff before u get to USC.

Your GPA looks fine. I can tell u that most people that don’t get into Marshall, it’s because your calculus is weak. ECON 351 uses a lot of calculus 1.

Just spend some time working on your essay. Your backstory is kind of similar to mine, So, u have a shot. But just spend some real time working on the essay. It means alot

My stats weren’t great. but my ec’s were decent. but yeah, i am going to try to check this board out more often to help repay this board when i was transferring. In all honestly, i am back on this board because my younger brother is applying to USC this year.

right now. I am a double business major (finance focus) & accounting (information systems).

@HelloG What were your stats at your previous college before SC?

Orange Coast College:
Honors Program, which i think helped me out in the process out, (every time i spoke to them, they stressed difficult course load)
-Calculus 1 & 2 Honors
-Calculus 3 Honors
-Linear Algebra & Differential Equations Honors
-And Bunch of Social Science Honor Units
GPA: 3.6+
EC’s: not much volunteer, but alot of work exp.
Essay: i thought it was pretty good. I spent a lot of time on it.

I didn’t finish any of my accounting courses.
I was a JUNIOR, but i added accounting so I’m stuck another semester.

anything else u guys want to know just ask.

@derhund12 LOL gangbang? haha I guess when I used to live in the east coast I was a “banger” hell my cousin was in Crips. x] I’m not in USC I only applied for this fall, I get my results pretty soon, I applied with a 4.0 decent essay and extra circulars and almost all GE except for one category which I am doing now in spring semester. All I can say is a 3.94 is pretty much a 4.0 (In A average gpa standards). If you maintain your GPA that high and finish your Business calc/calc and english sequence including Accoutning 1 and 2 and most of the GE’s when you apply, I think your set. Also when you apply do the Non-Custodial Parent waiver for your dad, your actually in a very similar situation as I was or am x] Good Luck! dood and don’t forget the average acceptance GPA is 3.7 … somehow applying with a 3.94 will put you at ease =]

@HelloG … *** you should just be an engineer major lmao Calc 1 2 AND 3 honors PLUS Linear Algebra ??? you went above and beyond sir ! All you need now is Theoretical math x]

@transfer2OI3 LOL. I originally wanted to go into investment banking as a quant. So more into Financial Engineering, which is a mix of Math / Finance / Computer Science. Decided just go with Finance & Accounting.but thanks tho. I actually might do a semester of Analysis to see the fuss is about =/. What are you applying as to USC?

I’m applying as Marshall, then taking that stupid abridged/adjoined Accounting course, hopefully ace it and attend Leventhal for accounting by spring semester =]. My friend is taking linear algebra for his engineering req. and boy is he dying x]. I kind of regret taking business calc instead of calc, but I was too late ignoring my Math sequence, kind of screwed me over at the end, Couldn’t apply to NYU, CAl, Ucla, Austin Texas, and other good schools x].

@Transfer2OI3 yeah BUAD 305 sucks… alot of people will tell u that they rather do both accounting classes (BUAD 285 & 286) than doing BUAD 305. LOL

How much would it hurt my chances for Marshall if my only two B’s were in microeconomic’s and my analytical writing course?
