USC Admitted Transfer Students 2008

does anyone know if housing is still open to transfer students or is it full?
They said its hard to tell because people will cancel or do reassignments

I talked to a USC housing rep. and she told that there is housing available for transfer students and if you just applied, then you’ll be in the next batch for housing assignments. Also, the deadline for canceling housing assignments is this week or next week.

iamtheeggman- i was able to see which courses transfered over about 3 days ago on Oasis.

usc24- I was able to see my fin aid a few days after I was admitted. 4 days tops.

usc24- i saw my fin aid info in 3 days (on a saturday)

btw- i just spoke to housing and was told once they receive notice of your commitment deposit (which she said will take about 5-7 business days) you should hear in within 2 wks

K thanks guys. For some reason, I’m stressing a lot right now about housing and seeing how much financial aid I got.

I just got my StARS/OASIS Report. A word of advice, if you sent in your FINAL transcript after you got admitted and it has been a week or more. Call up the Degree Progress Office (213-740-7070) and ask if they received your final Transcript, and ask how long it will take until you will have a transfer credit report (because you need that to show to your advisor). I called today for the former reason I stated, and the lady (who was VERY NICE) looked up my account and saw that my final transcript was received and she had my credit report/StARS posted in about 45 minutes!

I notice that they will not transfer your Major Courses until you meet up with your specific advisor for your major. So, I have about 9 more courses that need to be evaluated. If you have courses related specifically to your major and not fully transfered (just says “TR” next to the course), don’t worry, you have to see an advisor to evaluate it.

thanks, i guess I will call tomorrow. I gave them a final transcript as my spring grade request…

Did any of you have your course syllabi requested? They asked for syllabi from 6 of my classes I took last year

Solomon - I got a syllabus request for one of my courses. I am just going to bring the class description that my college put down, because I don’t think I still have the syllabus (almost 2 years have passed, not gonna keep a syllabus from 2006 fall).

sunsetsam- Thanks for the info. What number did you call?

Anyone looking for a roommate this year? I am looking for a roommate for a 2 bedroom off-campus apartment. Only requirement is that you don’t smoke (cigarettes) in the place. Girl or guy doesn’t really matter, however I am a male. Let me know as I believe there are no more on-campus housing options. Please PM me or post here for more info.

hey sunsetsam, thanks for the heads up. this one course which is a huge prereq is kind of tripping me out that it’s not coding right now, but if it’s just an advisement issue then i think i will be OK. also (and this can also go to solomon as well) did they email you guys about syllabi, etc, or does it say in your OASIS? i have so many courses from over the years that if i need to get something for them i need to start looking now.

Aww, man. I hope that doesn’t happen to me.

ksbr27- What kind of courses are they requiring syllabi from? After I finished I kinda dumped everything out but I suppose I can go ask my teachers for a copy or go to their websites and print one out. :/

i’m about to hit the step in pre-orientation hw for math placement testing… can anyone share details? (i’m not looking for the actual Qs or As, just what level of math) I’ve took first yr Calc this past yr, so I’m assuming it won’t be too hard? Is it a lot of pre-cal or algebra?? thxx

SC08Hopeful, the math level course you have depends on your major. For example, if your major requires ONLY pre-calc, and you have taken calculus one, you wont need to take the math placement exam. But before all of that, see if that math course will transfer. I skipped the math placement exam even though it was required for my major because I have taken up to Calc. III and the math requirement for my major was only pre-calc (and all my math courses transfered). But yeah, I think the highest level of math placement test goes up to is trigonometry.

WOT - The courses they are requiring syllabi from are ones that need further review to be transfered. If you look at your StARS or Transfer credit report, it will say “Syllabus Required” then the course name.

usc24 - the number I called was 213-740-7070

sunsetsam - thanks for the info

Has anyone been able to accept the financial aid awards at the “Financial Planner” on OASIS w/Fin Aid? I have that little foot note under my awards summary saying " The accept/decline button is not available. Do not submit…" (kinda paraphrased).

sunsetsam- I don’t have a stars report up yet bc my final grades havent been released. Im literally waiting on one professor. Just wondering whether I should prepare to turn in the syllabus for my Stats class since thats the only class recommended for my major. But thanks for your response.

& fin aid- No. The University grant is automatically credited to your student account I think 10 days before the semester starts and is automatic. For work study, get a job on campus and report it to them, apparently that money is for personal expenses throughout the year and you must pay that amount before the year starts. (Still kinda confused on that one.) For loans, for first time borrowers, you do have to fax in a few forms. Definately read everything carefully, lots to know and do. :p

sunsetsam- I just called the USC Degrees Progress Office and I think I talked to the same lady because she was extremely nice. She told me they did receive my final transcript and it should be processed tomorrow. :)
