USC Admitted Transfer Students 2008

cabrooks-i can see my STARS and they are transferring everything except a prereq which i think has to be cleared by my advisor as a cleared major requirement.

My STARS report showed up today and of course, it says I’m missing everything. So do I fax in my grades somewhere? Wow, how embarassing. I got 3 B’s, and 4 A’s. And my GPA went down a bit. :frowning: Meh. It’s all good so long as I passed right?

^^^And will our GPA’s start over clean when we transfer?

WOT- I got into UCSD (still waiting on USC) and a friend there told me that for your undergrad GPA, if you’re transferring from another college, it starts over.

But if you’re applying to grad school, they will ask you for your previous college’s GPA.

Obviously USC might have different rules, but I would like to think that they’re the same everywhere?

Hope that helps!

hey guys so i finally received my housing assignment…i got century but im not too sure about it? does anyone know anything about it? i cant go visit until next week and also is there anyway to find out your roommates before you pay the 400 bucks?

SittingMoose- Thanks for the info. I just think it’s ugly that I got such weird grades the last semester. Meh, if anything my previous GPA will help me for grad school. >_< I just think it’d be awesome to start over fresh and try to overachieve, if possible.

trojan_wannabe- GAH. I’m jealous, lol. That was another of my building preferences. Century is literally across the street from campus along Vermont. It’s the only apartment complex that houses Freshmen as well, though in limited amounts.

I got housing!!! I’m in the Honors House in a DBLE lol. Anyone know about the honors house?

I’m in TRO Honors in a DBLE as well haha

iamtheeggman- It’s for vegetarians since the meals are required lol. What’s your take on the Honors house?

no no, i messed up, its called, uh, Dean’s Hall. It is with all freshmen and I am entering sophomore…ha. Sorry!

haha gotcha. That kind of sucks though staying with a lot of freshman.

Yay!! I just got accommodated for the July 1st orientation!!! I’ll see you guys there!!

WOT- at USC only your new grades count towards your USC GPA. For Grad Schools, you still have to send them all of your post-secondary schools.

Also, they will average in your transfer GPA when determining Honors when you graduate (summa cum laude- 3.9, magna cum laude- 3.7, and cum laude- 3.5) if your transfer GPA is lower than your USC GPA … I know it can be kind of confusing, but that’s how they do it.

hey all,
so i called the guy who is the advisor to my major (as of right now) and i asked a few questions and he said that all issues (i.e. major prereqs not clearing on STARS, wanting to change major/minors, etc.) can/will be taken care of at orientation. ALL advisors in every school and department will be there so if you really do want to change your major, then go for it.
meanwhile, if you want to declare a minor (i.e. say i want to switch my major but still keep french as a minor), you need to talk to the advisor in that department (or the department itself) and apply for the minor and discuss advisement with them during this next semester. so if you want to declare a minor in…i don’t know, neuroscience or something, this fall, go talk to the department and apply for the minor.

of course, i’m still going to try and get on the books for the musical theatre minor this fall…because i’m sneaky like that ;)

RelientK- So if my GPA now is lower than my USC GPA they’ll average it in as a way to make it lower? :stuck_out_tongue: lol, okayyy. If my USC GPA is lower it is what it is? I guess they want a real assesment of my entire college work. :/

ksbr27- Really? My STARS report finally updated and pretty much everything counts except it says I’m missing an upper division english course?? Did all of you guys take one or is it a class we have to take at USC? Missing that messed my schedule plans a bit because in order to keep a minor I’m going to have to take 5 classes a semester for at least 3 semesters. Definately won’t be this Fall, though. I need to get used to everything first.

ksbr27 — Wow, that’s good to know about the major/minor info. Thanks! :-]
My STARS still hasn’t been updated. I sent in my official transcripts at least 2 or 3 weeks ago.

WOT-that is the upper division writing course, WRIT-340, that can only be taken at USC (it’s like cat IV/VI in reference to unable to take it anywhere else). i will probably take that next summer.

cabrooks-no problem  i was going to actually facebook message you that but i figured you would probably check this as well :)

sooooo i’m basically not going to be graduating in two years. my parents told me that if i want to take 18 units and graduate in two years, i would have to book out from working for two years…no WAY am i doing that. so i’ve been given a cap of 14 (16 IF NECESSARY) units a semester. FINE BY ME! gives me more opportunities to be involved on campus :D

ksbr27- Wow, that’s intense. Yeah, like I mentioned, it’s hard to graduate on time if you have a minor. Which really sucks because that’s the bare minimum for me, Major/Minor as oppossed to double majoring. I’ve been thinking about it and I’m going for it anyway. It’s just an extra class a semester and a summer and since I’m living on campus how bad can it possibly be, right? I can ask for help and focus more since I’m right there. & if my work/study job isn’t too busy I can even do homework or reading during that time, like I’ve seen some of other students do. :)

I’m just trying to convince myself that I can do it, lol. Not only do it, but do WELL. :p

Hey guys, we are about 2 months away from the start of our awesome USC education!! (Well 2 months from move-in day to be exact.)

I am also trying to decide what other major and/or minor I can do. I’m having fun looking at all the different options available but I have to keep in mind that is has to be do-able.

I see that a lot of us will be there on July 1st, pretty cool. = )

You CAN do it WOT!

I’m in the same situation as you. I’ll be taking summer school, working, and trying to graduate with a major and minor. My dilemma is I want to study aboard for at least a semester. An entire year would be phenomenal! :-]

trojangirlie11- aaah. :stuck_out_tongue: I was counting down until orientation but I see you’re already ahead of me, lol.

cabrooks- Thanks, and as for studying abroad that’d be awesome. You’ll be a sophomore, right? So you have time. Any particular program/country you have in mind? :)

my STARS report finally updated! I’m so glad my 2 APs = 8 units, that was a bonus.

Is anyone else getting really anxious about picking out classes for the first semester? I know we’ll have our advisement sessions, but it feels like choices are so vast, almost overwhelming (but all in a good way!)
