USC and Computer Science?

Hey guys,

I was recently accepted into USC for computer science. In addition though, I've also been accepted into UW, UIUC, and Georgia Tech, all three of which are considered excellent for computer science. What would be the pros and cons of USC over these other schools? USC is definitely more selective than the other 3, so I was just wondering if there were any benefits to going to USC for CS than UIUC for example.

What do you want to do with your CS degree/while you’re pursuing your CS degree?

If the answer is “make video games”, pchya, USC no question.

I guess I’d like to be actively recruited. You know, companies coming on campus looking for students.

Same here! I just got into USC compsci as well, and I’ve also been accepted to UW compsci. I can’t speak for the other two schools, but I know that UW compsci is extremely difficult to get into if you didn’t get in as a Freshman Direct Admit. I’m not sure what the process is for the other schools, but that would definitely be something to consider.

@sorange, congratz! Yeah, I’m only heading to UW if I get direct admit, but I’ve also been accepted to CS for UIUC with honors as well.

1234,

There is a student in Viterbi who has written long posts about his experiences in the school. You can find these right now in the USC vs. UCLA thread.

I suggest you visit the Viterbi website and check out the faculty, opportunities, and descriptions of the facilities. Donations of $35 million by Viterbi, $85 million by Ming Hsieh and huge donations from other alumni have provided for state of the art equipment, computers, laboratories and new buildings.

Viterbi is the home of two National Science Foundation Research Centers, DOE’s Energy Frontier Research Center, Stevens Institute for Innovation, Center for Robotic and Embedded Systems, Tsunami Research Center and the famous Game Pipe lab.

Also offered are study abroad opportunities and international exchange programs.

Any other thoughts?
