Hi, we have learned from the USC site that, unlike the freshman dorms, students in the apartment-style dorms, such as Cardinal Gardens, are billed for utilities twice a semester.

Can students who have lived in the USC apartments give us an idea of what size bill to expect?

Utilities are cheap, because the weather is so nice and the apartments are small for heating/cooling anyway. Internet is free. No one has land telephone lines any more. I'd say in the range of $50 per month per student.

Webb Tower residents do not pay for utilities.

Also, dt123: I think your numbers are off. Have you ever lived in Cardinal and paid utilities or are you just pulling that number out of the air?

I think that number is off. I lived in private off-campus housing and my roommates and I had to pay for water, gas, and electric. It was no more than $50 for all utilities every month (which was less than $10 per person for the five of us).

That's not a bad price. I assume the cost of air conditioning is included in the USC electric bill? (Running the A/C is very expensive in our So. CA home as it pushes us into "heavy user" triple rates.)

Would appreciate if anyone else can share their utility bill experience in USC-owned apartments. My daughter will specifically be in Cardinal Gardens.

I lived in a 2 person apartment in Cardinal Gardens freshman year. Looking back at my billing statements, I was paying about $25 a month for electricity.

I hardly used the air conditioning because the weather is fairly mild, and the unit was noisy and inefficient.
