USC Appeal Process, How Does it Work?

roylikeswaffles Why are you not able to send in your appeal until next Sunday? If your appeal is going to be late than you need to call and ask for permission to do this. if possible i would hand deliver and ask for a receipt saying they have received your appeal.

I am going off to Florida for spring break and won’t get back home until late Saturday evening. Is there any way for me to have my appeal in their hands on Monday if I send it on Sunday? I live in the Bay Area. Thank you for the suggestion.

I originally applied to Marshall but in my appeal i plan to change my major to undeclared. Do you think that would make any difference when the review my application?

Can you mail it Certified return receipt before you leave for spring break. Or mail it Monday when you get to Florida and sent it by 2day express mail . I would not chance mailing it sunday when you return home. You are taking a big risk even if you send it next day mail.

Minhas I would not change a major just to get in. Remember you have to get accepted by the university and then your major. Of course you can pick a new major and explain why . l but you need more than just that. Did you give USC a clear idea of who you are in your original essay? If not work on doing that in your appeal. You can talk about a hobby you did not mention originally or even discuss poor grades and what you learned about your self thru that experience.

Well i copied and pasted my Common App essay which i thought was very good. It got me into some good schools such as Michigan, Babson and NYU but USC is my first choice =(

Thanks for the advice, but I already landed in Florida and either way I do not have my transcript on hand so I could not officially mail it out unfortunately. I will try to call to see what I can do.

I lost the FAQ sheet that came with my rejection letter does anybody still have theirs? Because I was wondering if it had a date that we should hear back about our appeals.

@dakotaa:
they said they will notify us via letter and email on May 12th, 2011
If you still need the FAQ sheet, i have it scanned, pm me :)

@hoopro can you sned the FAQ sheet to me? I also cant find mine anywhere :/

@lala101
I PMed you :)

Did you send this already??? If not – DON’T SEND IT! Write a 100% new letter, tailored to why you want to go to USC and USC ONLY.

Other threads have mentioned this – USC can spot generic and reused essays! You may have signed your death sentence, I’m afraid. :(

I recently got rejected to USC, I plan to appeal. Since your son’s appeal was successful, would you mind sending it to me so I know what they are looking for? I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Appeals are very rarely successful, so as was posted above, be sure to put deposit on a U you can attend if appeal is denied.

Our friend’s D wrote a successful appeal last spring and was admitted for fall. I believe she was one of only 3 successful appeals.

A strategy with improved odds to consider is to transfer after completing some coursework, as my D did. They do accept quite a few transfers, especially from CCs.

Good luck!

Would you say that the new essay is the most important factor in appealing? Or senior transcript?

@bbgg I just found out that I was rejected :frowning: and plan to appeal (hoping for at least a Spring admission). Would you mind PMing me your son’s letter? This appealing process is very confusing to me…

@bbgg Can you send me a copy of your Son’s appeals letter?

@bbgg I know this is two years later, but if you would please private message me that would be great. Thank you so much for your time!

@bbgg if you could CC that to me as well, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I no longer have a copy of my son’s appeal . Just remember that your appeal must contain new information that was not present on your original application . For instance did your grades suffer? If so you might explain why they were not up to to par and what you learned from that experience. Did you win any new awards? Was your original essay not an ideal picture of who you are? Was there a hobby that you have that you did not share in your original application.
Just a few ideas . Good luck on your appeal.
