USC Appeals 2016

Figured I should get this discussion going since the portals have updated.

Some general information and instructions.

USC receives about 1,000 appeals every year, with roughly 30-50 decisions being overturned. The appeal decision comes out in mid-May, so USC recommends that you accept admission to another school. If your decision is overturned, they send you further instructions.

The admissions committee is interested in “new and compelling information not included in your original application.”

You can submit your appeal via the YouSC portal, fax it, or deliver it in person to the admissions office. The exact instructions are located on the back of your rejection letter, but in essence they want a 1 page letter with a cover page. No additional letters of recommendation.

Appealing applicants are notified of the decision Friday, May 13th by e-mail.

Hi @MiracleShot ! My name is Hope and I’m from Cleveland! I plan on appealing asap. What counts as new and appealing information?

I’m Katie and I’m appealing my description to the School of Dramatic Arts. I know it’s a bit of a long shot since they’ll only take about 50, but it’s worth a shot since USC is my dream school :slight_smile:

I’m thinking of appealing as well. But as others have said, @MiracleShot what is considered new and compelling information?

@CCMThreeTimes answered this before:

Does anyone know if it is possible or worth it to appeal Spring Admission. Sorry – I know I should be, and am, happy to even be accepted. Just curious if it’s possible.

Your name is perfect for the appeal. Hope!

Hey! Do any of you happen to be from Washington and know about Running Start? Or has anyone completed college courses while still in high school? Like a dual enrollment program?

Also does anyone want to exchange appeals? I would be happy to read and give feedback!

Does anyone know how strict they are about the letter being one page? What if it extends to two pages?

I think it might be just one page

@dangerruss double spaced???

Single spaced is fine and acceptable, double space it if you don’t have much to say. But if it says one page, do one page, show you can follow directions, pretty important by the time you go to college. :slight_smile:

@dangerruss I would be glad to exchange appeals but I’m not sure when I’ll be finishing mine

@yellowbee hope you are done by now! all the best everyone:)

USC is the dream! Best of luck to everyone

Anyone else agonizing about playing The Waiting Game for over a month before we hear back from USC?

Did those who submitted an appeal (via upload to the document library) get an email confirmation that the appeal was received?

@bluspaced I didn’t. But if you look on the youSC portal under Received Documents, if Appeal of Admission Decision is under there, it is most likely they got it.

@thatguy1266 Thank you! My appeal is under received. I’m just relieved that the email didn’t indicate a problem since it’s not just me.
