This message confirms that the University of Southern California has received your online Part 1 application for admission. Once we have had a chance to process your application, we will send you a confirmation letter through postal mail.

Last year, when we had questions about whether to submit Part-1, and at what time, we sent an email, and here is their reply (from last year).

Thank you for your interest in USC. The Part One is a pre-application and separate from the main element, Part two application. The Part One covers very basic questions.

what do i do if im taking the november sat and the part1 app is due in oct?

AzNChoiBoi8 - USC realizes that many Seniors still have ACT and/or SAT and AP exams scheduled in the future. This Part-1 is merely getting you into their database. If you have not already, check out Part-2. It is THE main application. It has several sections, that go into great deal. If you read my post (above) which I cut & pasted a response directly from the USC Admissions office, she indicated that Part-1 covers "very basic questions" (and those were her words).

In answer to your question, the Main Application Part-2, will provide you with the many prompts to put all your test scores, class scores, areas of interest, leadership, ECs, etc. etc. Last year, the Main Application (Part-2) was due around December 10. You will need to check for this year's Due Date. I would highly recommend completing Part-2 by the earlier date (Dec date) so that you will be considered for Financial Aid.

I sent out my part I a month ago. I'm waiting for my part 2 and more important, the teacher/counselor forms with my student id.

How do you check the status of your part II application for USC? Will they tell you if they go the part II or how does that work?

It’s online on their website under Admissions. You’ll see to download the PDF files. There several pages to fill out. My daughter will be doing it, herself. Since she’ll be applying for scholarships, the deadline is Dec.1. Otherwise, it’s in January.

Original question from 2006 so I think the OP got the answer.

I hope the applicants for USC this year fine-tune their reading and logic skills before they submit their applications. Advanced search, scour the USC Admissions website… Just sayin’…

(I think I need to retire. Confidential to the other USC moms: this is one of those posts I should delete but I just can’t help myself this time.)

cc411, you CAN’T retire!!! I am too frumpy to carry on without you!

cc411 - We may need to create a new thread “cc441 cannot retire”. I am a new USC mom and only get to check this site intermittently. Your contributions are fabulous and very helpful to students, potential students, parents, etc. Don’t underestimate your contributions :)

No, cc411 must stay, so we can call you guys Frumpy and Grumpy (and a justified Grumpy, I’d say!)

Ha ha! Thanks moms. But I think my patience is wearing thin! I’m trying to stay away but unfortunately it’s like an addiction. I’m taking it one day at a time- step by step- maybe I can break free someday. This is how I feel sometimes:
http://xkcd.com/386/

But the USC forum is definitely in good hands.

^ I LOVE it! Printing it out to tape to my computer screen to keep me away!

That is hilarious! Thank you cc411!

Maybe USC Admissions needs to reword their communications?

I had to laugh at the email sent out from Stanford after S submitted his early application. It …was…very…precise… It was very specific as to HOW Stanford would communicate to the applicant, WHERE (URLs) communicaions would come from), and that students should NOT call if pieces of the application were shown as missing from the online checker. If pieces are still showing as outstanding by Nov 19, the applicant should send them a SECOND time.

I guess I … found … the … precision …so … amusing, given the level of applicant Stanford is striving for. Perhaps they have a better idea than we do how the senior’s brains get fried during the application process. What I do know, as a parent, is that one can be driven nuts by the quirks of each school. School A REQUIRES the supplement to be sent BEFORE the Common Application. School B sends an email to the student (since teacher LORs are in), stating that the student SHOULD send the Common App before the supplement if they’d like a chance for an interview. And on and on.

BTW, my S is applying to USC (my H is on faculty there.) Part A was sent ages ago.

Anyone going to the Discover USC event in November (the one on the USC campus)?

cc, that is too funny!

I’m wondering if USC is going to join the Common App like most other colleges by now.

Since they spent so much effort revamping their online application system I imagine they won’t move to common app, at least not entirely.
