So I received an email today from USC telling me that my interview scheduled for Dec. 22 was canceled and I would need to re-schedule it. I checked online to find another date and, of course, this late into the month the only times available are for Thursday and Friday. I selected tomorrow because it’s the time that works best with my school schedule, but quite frankly I’m freaking out a bit because I was expecting to have this interview in a few weeks, not tomorrow. This has caught me completely off guard and now I’m feeling very unprepared, so I was wondering if anybody could share their experience with the USC SDA interview (even if it was for the BFA!). I’m mainly wondering approximately how long it will take, if the interview is with a member of the theatre faculty, and what kind of questions they’ll ask (should I review my application to refresh my mind on what I put?) I’m grateful for any help because I’m kind of panicking right now and unsure what to expect.
My daughter interviewed for the BFA program two years ago, and I was actually in the room and could see them interviewing all the kids. It is very relaxed, so no need to worry! My d was interviewed by one of the Admissions officers and they asked about her theater work in high school, what she hoped to achieve in the future, things like that. They spoke with her for about 10 minutes. Make sure you have a few questions of your own to ask them – you will do fine!
Thank you for the info! I was hoping that it would be a relaxed interview, but I guess I’ll see for myself! You’ve definitely reassured me
Hi theatergirl97, same thing happened to my daugther this week! Her interview is Monday and she asked me to look on here for the same kind of info! hope yours went well. If you feel comfortable posting details, we’d love to hear them!
As astute12 previously posted, the interview is very relaxed and casual so there’s no need to panic! I think the hardest thing for me was doing the interview over phone because I found it to be awkward (and we did end up losing connection a few times) but I adjusted. I would definitely recommend looking over the essays because I thought that a lot of the questions I was asked could easily be answered through reading my essays. There were mainly typical questions like what can you bring to the school, why are you interested in the school, how would people describe you, etc. so my biggest recommendation is to just answer honestly and thoughtfully. I didn’t feel that there were any trick questions, but the most difficult ones for me were the ones that I thought too hard about what the school or interviewer would have wanted me to say so that’s really my own fault and definitely not something your daughter should worry about. If your daughter knows what she wants to do at USC and knows her interests then I think she’ll be fine! Just remember that the purpose of the interview is to simply understand the applicants better and to see if they’re a good fit for the school. Best of luck!
