I here that usc has a bs/md program, can anyone enlighten me about it more than the usc website?

I have a really low gpa due to stupidity during my freshman and begining of sophmore year, and have a 3.47 (yea.... i know) unweighted (very very very competitive high school)
but i do have:
sat iis:
iic 800
chem 790
bio 760

sat i:
2300

APs:
euro - 5
chem - 5
physics - 4
us hist. - 5
bio - 5
lang - (look below expect 4 or 5)
calc ab- (taking now expect 4 or 5)
also taking ap lit and stats, possibly calc bc next year (might be too much) but expecting to do quite well, with 4s or 5s, as i study very very hard for aps..

ECs:
newspaper editor, writer for 2 years
1 summer research internship at city of hope hospital (pretty prestigous)
150 hrs Red Cross hrs
100 hrs hospital volunteer hrs (USC)
placed 3rd in the siemens/westinghouse science search (regional)
2 yrs president of red cross club at school
placed (1-3) in 4 statewide writing competitions
planning to enter intel talent search next year, hopeful for good place

and this is still my junior year, so, is there anything i can do to get into USC? i really love the school b/c it has 2 programs that follow my interests (business and medicine), i REALLY want to get it, can anyone suggest anything i can do to improve my chances in the next 2 semesters (2nd of junior 1st of senior) of getting in, or is it a lost cause? plz, im really losing hope after wat i read on the website, but i want honest critisism.

o, and i dont really know how schools (especially usc) weight classes, it says theri average for accepted students is 4.2 weighted, how do they weight? i mean, does it include PE and TA classes or no?

I dont think they factor in electives when they weight. They usually only factor in ur core classes. Ur stats r awesome but programs often place a strong emphasis on ur transcript (grades/gpa/rank) for the initial selection process. If u could get ur gpa up and rank in the top 10% then u shud be fine. Nevertheless, gpa isn't everything, and with those stats you may still hav a good chance, especially with the competitiveness of ur h.s. Also, get sum more clinical experience by shadowing a doctor.

i got into usc bac/md and plan to attend it; i know they don't look that highly on ur SAT scores if u have good experiences or they see something good in you that will allow u to succeed in this program; as far as gpa i don't know b/c i didn't look at other people's gpa that were accepted this year; if most of ur screwups were in freshmen year (if there is a C in there) then explain it in the additional information section that you had trouble adjusting (colleges don't weight freshmen grades that high i.e. i heard stanford doesn't even look at them); if you have a C anywhere else then it gives you a little less chance for the program; otherwise i think that the best thing for you to do is use ur passion for business as an edge for your application (make it seem verrry altruistic though) i got a lot of help from some people who applied b4 me so u can always pm me or sumthin if u need more advice; also taking into account ur ap scores u should definitely send in ur ap scores and if ur grades are pretty mediocre highlight ur ap scores in ur additional info section and i think u should be fine

my best case weighted is like a 3.63
my school refuses to give class rankings, so.... i dont know waht is gonna happen with that
rishug, what was your weighted gpa?
as for the screwups
i actually, got a D in spanish in 9th grade and a C in math , as for tenth, i had As and Bs for the year, but mgiht have had a C in one semester (3.5 unweighted in 10th) and 11th ive gotten a 4.0.
how does USC use APs, i know you dont get college credit for them, but will it show how hard my school is, maybe cut me a lil slack that way or something? and how about ECs, what kind of stuff do they look for?

thx again for the input, im seriously falling apart, so, any answers would be helpful, once again, thx

and also, i have taken several ucla courses including
psycolocy (spelling?)
int. calc
stats
chem
and bio
(begining courses only, 1 quarter each)

since its only 9th grade it can be reversible; with a solid sat score and those ap tests i hope the admissions counselors look at that; as for as e.c's go my whole essay and appeal was this clinic i started teaching disadvantaged children how to play tennis...awesome activity but also killed liek 5 different birds in one stone ... leadership, athletics, and 'humanism' so all my interviews for med programs asked about my essay cuz they thought of it as 'heartawrmin'; i would say try to create something that u have a passion for or interest b/c leading/founding something is always better than participating in something

wow, nice ec...how did you come across such a program?
i forgot to mention that i am a national merit finalist (232), but i dont think it matters...

thx for the help, ill be on the lookout for such an oppurtunity, u say your essay was powerful, is that generally the case? that USC takes your essay with a lot of weight in your application process?
