USC Bacc/MD or Dartmouth

I need help, I’m totally lost as to where I should go. I am posting this exact message in a few places.

USC Bacc/MD, biochem major, guaranteed acceptance to Keck. But I would work to apply out.

Dartmouth, biochem major

At either school, I would work hard, volunteer, research, etc.

Thus, question is, would going to Dartmouth give me an advantage that wouldn’t be present at USC?

Shadowing
Shadowed the director of the Critical Care Department at Northwestern. I observed both surgeries and emergency room situations. Amazing letter of recommendation.

omg that is the EXACT same situation im in!! but i got the presidential scholarship, and as of right now, im about 80% bacc/md. the other 20% really depends on financial aid at usc, cuz dartmouth gave me a decent package

what other schools did u get into?

Heh, I think we’re twins. I got the presidential too. Waiting on FA at USC, Dartmouth package is nice as well.

what do mean by all the classes ur taking next year? aren’t u a senior already?

ps. lol are u on facebook? maybe we can compare our lives too :D

Yeah, sorry about that stuff, copied and pasted from the first chance thread that search found.

So anyone want to say something to enlighten cece and I?

Dartmouth kids who were capable of a BS/MD admit at this age won’t have any troubles later on.

My experience with the BA/ MD is the following:

There is no question that Dartmouth is one of the best undergrad college experiences in the world. It also prepares its students exceptionally. A top student with a strong GPA (3.75+) and a strong MCAT (33+) can expect to get into one of the top 20 med schools, and with some luck one of the top 5 or 10.

That said, getting a 3.75 at Dartmouth isn’t a cakewalk and the MCAT requires significant preparation. I had a friend go to Northwestern HPME and he had a 3.2 and basically didn’t really have to push himself that hard in college. The reality is getting into med school is so tough that I’m not sure its worth it to have to be the cream of the crop again when you have USC med as a backup option.

Wow, just take the USC BA/MD and enjoy your four years undergrad. USC has a fine medical school…it’s not ranked the highest, but still, it’s not some random med school that no one has ever heard about.

This may be a suitable question if it were a lower quality guaranteed med program, but that’s not the case. USC is bomb, and I would kill to go to their program.

You have worked hard already, and now you have an awesome opportunity right at hand. You can actually have FUN in undergrad and do activities that you want to do, not only ones that will help for medical school.

I’m biased and you both know that. So I’ll just add my two cents anyway.

Pick USC. FIGHT ON!

you both will be successful at either school.
Go with your gut feeling and/or best financial package.

Or… let the weather be the deciding factor: Sunny LA rules! ;)

Hey guys, i also got into bacc/md at usc and i’m on facebook. I’m in the EXACTLY the same dilemma! Except for me, I got into Duke. I’m wondering between Duke and Bacc/MD, anyone got any advice? thanks!

General consensus from doctors seems to be to take the direct med and work hard to do better. Medical school admissions have gotten harder and if you remember, 2008 was the largest application year for college and this will follow us into 2012 when we will probably be the largest medical school application class.

Despite this advice, I’m still more likely to attend Dartmouth.

Re #11: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/147457-pre-med.html

Bluedevilmike is absolutely right, Duke is a known premed factory. So you will have almost no issue getting to medical school from Duke.
