Hi - There are enough of you posting on different threads I thought I'd make it easier to start one specifically for USC. My daughter is a Freshman BFA and her roommate a Freshman BA -

Bettylouchandler - This is the Oasis link you have been asking about -

Click here to see status of specific documents, or to turn in missing items.

If your daughter has it, it will be on her application status page.

The young lady I coached this year was first updated on the 13th and got the link today. I am keeping my fingers crossed that is good news!

I’ve been asking on a number of different threads - what’s your (and your daughter and her roomates’) view of BFA vs BA? My daughter went BA because she wants MT which they don’t do as a BFA but now we’re hearing that the BA students are 3rd class citizens because first come MFA, then BFA, the the BA students get whatever is left over. Some have said that BFA students are cast first with small parts going to BA students, classes are closed out for BA students, etc. And yet, many BA students rave about their experiences.

I’m just looking for thoughts from those personally involved! Thanks!

I’ve been lurking on the USC threads, and it seems that, in many instances, an OASIS link is posted shortly before an admissions packet arrives. Not everyone gets the OASIS link before they get the packet, but an OASIS link is definitely a very, very positive sign, according to the posters. So, for what it’s worth, that’s a good reason to be hopeful!

So does the link just all of sudden appear on the “application status page”. The one that says “status last updated” and then a date. I have an “Oasis” link in my financial aid documents section. It asks for my id# and password.

Hi amtc - my daughter is friends with lots of BA’s and they all love the program. In fact 3 of her fellow BFA’s are now BA’s. My daughter was just in a main stage show and it was at least half BA’s and they all had great (or better) roles than the BFA kids. USC brings in a lot of guest directors and I am sure their casting is based on talent and who is right for a particular role - rather than who is a BA or BFA. There are also shows that only the BA’s are allowed to audition for. If I remember correctly the BFA program requires 80 units of theatre classes to graduate and the BA around 50 - so in that respect it is a little more intense, but they all have the same teachers and some required theatre classes have both BA’s and BFA’s in them. I’m not sure if my daughter knows anyone minoring in MT, but I will ask her. If you can, go to the School of Theatre’s Open House for Accepted Students in April. You will get a great sense of the school, program and Trojan Family.

my application status page was last updated on March 10. Thank you too your great and always trying to help all of us that are new!!! Thanks too for the encouraging news about BA compared to BFA. I too am really into musical theatre and singing is my best thing so I hope I will have opportunities for that. What do you know about singing opportunities with musicals?

My D was just accepted into the BA. Her status was updated on 3/17 and 3/19. She could log on as an accepted student to “Explore USC” as of 3/19; however she had not received her admission packet yet, so we laid low until it came which was on 3/21. You might try logging onto that page if you want to try to see where you stand (although it is not foolproof–I’ve also read about kids who were not able to log on and had admission packet in hand!)
She is also interested in MT and has been accepted to a full MT program, so we would love input from anyone who is pursuing that at USC.

I wish I could be of more help re: MT so I will have to ask my daughter for some input and see if she knows a BA who is minoring in it. If you do go to the Open House in April you will see Brigadoon. We saw Carousel last year and it was awesome. After the musical they have a reception and you can meet the cast. Throughout the day you will be able to meet and speak with the professors, admissions and the Dean. They are all very warm and welcoming people and I’m sure they can answer all your questions!

Weluvtheatre thanks for the Explore USC tip!

Actingmom - thanks for the insight, it’s the most positive I’ve heard so far! We have the date (4/11) on the calendar but haven’t booked a flight yet and still haven’t decided if she’ll go it alone or one of us will tag along.

It’s funny she was accepted so long ago I don’t think she’s even looked at any additional information on their website because of what we heard. I’ll have to get her to delve further to create some excitement. I know she thinks it’s far (we’re in NY) and she’s not an LA person (very NY) but I would like her to keep all her options open, check out all the schools she’s been accepted to and then make a somewhat informed decision.

Thanks again and any further MT info would be greatly greatly appreciated.

On the admissions page, click on “Visit USC” and then click on Admitted Students. There is a place to log in with your USC ID (issued when you applied) and last name. Be warned, this may not work even if you are admitted!! We saw this on another USC thread and it did work for us but not the first time her status was updated. So if you CAN’T log on it may not mean anything but if you CAN, it should mean that you are.

I just now went into Visit USC and did clicked on Admitted students, per your note above. A page came up that says 4 choices: Explore USC, Preview USC, On Campus Admitted Student Reception or Off Campus Admitted Student Reception. I clicked on reserve now and tried to enter my USC id# and Last name and it says unable to find record match. What do you think.
Thanks so much for trying to help!!!

Another question to those of you on this USC Thread. I love this cuz we can all talk to each other. Anyone know of anyone that got into USC on a lesser GPA. Mine is not the highest. I talked to my counselor on 3-11. I just called him because I had another school asking me to make a deposit by March 20 and just asked if he could give me any indication so that I could figure out what to do. He said I was definitely still in review mainly because of my talent as I did ask him about the gpa issue. Thanks for any help!!

Gonabastar - at the info session this year they said the average GPA of the BFA freshman class was 3.7 — but remember that is only the average, so some kids had over 4.0 and some under 3.5 — I do think the BA’s have very strong GPA’s and test scores.

If they don’t recognize your ID it appears you are not in the system yet. AS NOTED, some kids who were admitted could not log on for a few days. So don’t drive yourself crazy!
I think you need to have this link which actingmom described at the beginning of the thread:

Click here to see status of specific documents, or to turn in missing items.

When that showed up along with an updated status date, my D could log onto Explore USC.
Hang in there! :-)

I would assume that if during your audition after the first monologue they did not ask to see another monologue then you would not be a candidate for the BFA. Is there anyone out there who was admitted to the BFA and only performed one monologue or is my guess re: two monologues right?

Because of the large group, everyone at my D’s audition in LA this year were only allowed to do one. They were asked to choose among the two they prepared.

I only did one monologue at the LA audition. We were also asked to choose our best and there was a large group At the Las Vegas Audition I did 2 monologues and a song the first day and at the call back I did a new monologue that they critiqued and spent the 45 minutes with me. Thanks again everyone! I am still praying!!!
