USC BFA and BA

I will try to answer questions to the best of my ability. I don’t know, but would think, that there are BA Theatre admits in spring. This is a question that someone in the department should answer. There are a few BFA transfers as some students drop out as well, but there are obviously fewer of these since it is a smaller program. These students have to blend in to a program with more department requirements, so it’s more complicated.

There appears to be one show per year that is set aside for the BFA sophomores and one for juniors. Other shows are wide open to BA students and even non-theatre majors. I know that BA students do get strong parts in shows. I heard on a tour that there was an instance where a non-theatre major got a lead part. There is also an opportunity to study in London as a junior for a semester which is available to BFAs and BAs; students in both groups can and do participate.

I hope this is helpful. Actingmom’s D has had a roommate in the BA program so she might be even more helpful! And as for the selection process, we were told that the BFA students are selected 80% based on audition and 20% on academic credentials with the BA students selected 80% based on academic credentials and 20% based on audition. That’s what I remember but it’s been a few years now!
