USC BFA and BA

My student is able to login to the events rsvp system this morning! Yippee! Everyone keep checking your status this week. Hopefully this means they are sending out more acceptances this week. Good Luck!!!

My status was last updated on March 10 and I think I already have an Oasis account too. Nothing in the mail today. I see this new application status page that has been there for a week to maybe a few days, im not sure (it used to just go straight to the actual application status page directly but now there is this page before that. It gives a choice to go to l. Undergraduate Application or 2. Admission and Financial Aid online services. I clicked on admissions area. My id number is highlighted under the toolbar that says Oasis. Once I try to get into the actual Oasis I haven’t been able to log in. I never created a password for this and tried the email password and my usc password. Neither works. Does this sound like the Oasis thing everyone is talking about.

actingmom,

So happy for your student and I bet you are very happy for her. Good job, you must have been a great teacher. Thanks for the update!

Gonobastar: same thing happens to me - I get to the log in page and it recognizes my user ID but not my password - says I will receive an email with info in it as to how to log on. Does this mean I don’t have an OASIS account yet? My site says I can either enter my USC ID registration number (the one they give you to put on your application) or my user ID - I’ve tried both and neither work. What do you think this means? Maybe I’m not doing it right…

bettylouchandler,

I am not sure. On the Oasis part it only asks me for my id # and the password. Nothing about getting an email. Okay let’s just hope the mail man doesn’t ask us for a password too before he will hand us the mail. HA HA. Just thought maybe should try to have fun with it at this point. I am going crazy even thou I know I am not supposed to. Well at least I am thinking about going to Santa Monica College if I don’t get into USC. Just really happy I have a back up plan. The my counselor at USC said it is a good junior college that has a high number of students that come into USC. Also I saw on another thread they send kids to UCLA, Julliard, and some other great schools. They are suppose to have a really good theatre department. Have you heard anything about this.

Gonabastar and Bettylou - follow these steps

https://camel2.usc.edu/AdmOnlineApplication/

login with your user id and password

The next page you will see will give you your application status. That is what you are looking for.

The bottom line is the oasis link -
“Click here to see status of specific documents, or to turn in missing items.”

Hope that makes sense - good luck to the both of you!!!

Gonobastar: Thanks! Stocking up on hours at a good junior college with intention of transferring is a very good option and one that we are starting to consider. Have already gone to website of SMC and will spend more time on it now. Have you been there in person?

My D has a link to submit midyear grades online, but no link that says
“Click here to see status of specific documents, or to turn in missing items.”
Should we assume she’s not accepted at this point?
Also, do you know whether all accepted students have been notified for 2009?

Hi actingmom,

Again your so great in trying to help. I am getting the same exact thing that Ipc “missing link” is describing on his post just above me here. I tried searching that site you gave me but it can’t be found. I will send you an email (I have received an email from you before so I still have your email address) I will send with it my log in id and password. Maybe you would be willing to go in and check for me. I trust you with my id# as you have been so kind to try and help. If your busy and can’t get to it I will understand too.

Hi Bettylouchandler,

I haven’t visited yet but my grandmother lives in Long Beach and my Aunt lives in Laguna Niguel. They both tell me the area is beautiful. Also I called and talked to the theatre department and looked at all the classes and teachers on line. It all looks very good so far. Plus the fact that my USC counselor said it was good meant a lot. He said even thou he still did not know yet if I was accepted yet but I asked him the question since I had him on the phone and I talked to him on March 11, 2009.

Anyone else have any feedback about Santa Monica College. I am just trying to have a back up plan in case in don’t get into USC. I was rejected at Cal Arts (Im thinkin probably because I am mainly a singer, I hope and they are mainly acting and not musical theatre) also I was accepted by Los Angeles AMDA, but have decided I don’t want to go there. Also anyone know of any other junior colleges they would recommend to attend until I can get into a university. I know I need to really work hard on my gpa and then I will go for it again!

actingmom, that’s great about your student. My son at USC in BFA only did one monologue, I think, and also I can attest that the BAs at USC have wonderful opportunities and intermingle with the BFAs.

D is considering the USC BA program - but is most interested in studying acting/movement/voice. We were looking today at the major requirements and the course listings. It appears as if there are only a few courses that indicate they are limited to BFA acting students. Does anyone know what the flexibility is for BA students to take the upper division acting and movement/voice classes as part of their major electives?

Do they have spring admits for the school of theatre?

"I’ve been asking on a number of different threads - what’s your (and your daughter and her roomates’) view of BFA vs BA? My daughter went BA because she wants MT which they don’t do as a BFA but now we’re hearing that the BA students are 3rd class citizens because first come MFA, then BFA, the the BA students get whatever is left over. Some have said that BFA students are cast first with small parts going to BA students, classes are closed out for BA students, etc. And yet, many BA students rave about their experiences.

I’m just looking for thoughts from those personally involved! Thanks!"

She’s asked what I’ve been trying to dig up for years!!! Thanks so much!
Oh, are all BA’S in the country like this? AND, does a student have more of a chance of getting accepted in the BA program VS. The BFA when applying to the college for acting?

mikeshypnotic,

I think reply #5 and #9 on previous pages in this thread might help you! Did your daughter get accepted into the BA at USC.

Regretfully not accepted to USC. I will try again later and for more schools. I have learned so much on this forum in the last month. Thank you to all who have given such great advice. For now I will look for plan B and I will keep the faith. I definitely know everything happens for a reason!!!

See my thread on USC admissions process.

SMC has the best transfer rates.

And yes, they do have spring admits for a BA.

IanJoesph: I am really sorry that your daughter was rejected from USC. I hope that this will be the last time in her life that either you or she is rejected from anything. This thread is not however about your pain and anger. You have fully informed everyone about how horrible you think SC treated your daughter. (I can imagine how you would feel if all you received from UCLA was a thanks for applying…but no…on the computer.) The people on this thread want information about BA versus BFAs, transferring etc. Let’s give them the chance to receive information.
