A little history to my dilemma: Last year I applied to USC for Fall 2011 and submitted an application for the Cal Grant. I was denied admission to USC and I didn't do anything further with my Cal Grant application. I just left it alone.

My current dilemma: I reapplied to USC for Fall 2012, as well as several other schools, and submitted the Cal Grant Application. I just got a letter in the mail from the Cal Grant Commission saying "The Commission has received information that indicated you are not enrolled at this school. To be eligible to receive the Cal Grant Award, you must notify the Commission of your current school of enrollment."

Question #1: When is the deadline to let the Cal Grant Commission know what school I am going to go to?

Question #2: If the deadline is around March 2nd or so, how am I supposed to let the Commission know what college I am going to if I haven't even received the decisions from the schools? From what I learned last year, most of the schools I applied to didn't give me a decision until mid-May.

I suggest you call The California Student Aid Commission with your questions. The eligibility says “within one year of graduating from high school,” so if you graduated in 2011 you should be within that time frame.

Be sure USC was listed on your FAFSA, and I would resubmit your Cal Grant GPA form - your high school will not do it automatically for you this year, so to be sure it gets done I would print out the form and take it to your high school registrar.

So, things to do:
- Be sure your FAFSA is submitted and processed with USC as one of the schools. Also list all other California schools to which you are applying, including community colleges.
- Submit your verified GPA form http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/gpaform.pdf This must be done by March 2nd.
- Create your Webgrants account <a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home; to track your award.
- Call The California Student Aid Commission to be sure you have everything you need. You will have to ask them about designating your school of enrollment. The issue may be that you started the process last year and they are thinking you have enrolled for Spring semester. Call as soon as possible for instructions.
Thank you! I am planning on calling them on Monday. It doesn’t really affect anything, but I am a transfer student, not a high school student. I am going to call them first thing Monday morning.
