USC & Chapman more competitive than Tisch Film?!

From what I've been told around this forum, USC Film and Chapman Film are more competitive than Tisch film! They have like 8/9% acceptance rates for those programs or something, that's crazy! Doesn't Tisch Film have something like 25% acceptance rate?

Maybe it's just the Californian air. Everyone wants to be a director there, lol.

no. Tisch has a very low acceptance rate as well. I don't know the undergrad rate but I know the grad rate is 5%. I actually imagine it goes more like USC, UCLA or NYU, then maybe Chapman. I don't see what all the fuss is about Chapman to begin with. Nice technology and great access to equipment but what else?

then again, I also might not have liked chapman because it was too religiously affiliated for me.

And film school is what you make of it.

Chapman's up and coming, and I hear they give you more freedom, despite the whole religious affiliation thingy.

And yeah, I guess you're right. Smart words, lol.

on the whole, Chapman and usc are more selective in their film programs/majors than nyu. about 5-10% against about 20-25%. it doesn't necessarily mean anything at all.

Yeah I thought so. NYU just has more space, lol. And Tisch Film is still the best film program in the country. :P

i thought that usc = hollywood and tisch = indie. I also heard that usc is ranked higher (there are rankings?) but Tisch has more recent, famous names. tisch students have won best director in the oscars 3 times in a row now, right?

where are you guys getting the percentages for Tisch Film's acceptance rate? NYU releases data for all of Tisch combined, and not by department. NYU in general, or maybe Tisch may be 20-25% (which sounds right), but that may not be what the Film/TV department accepts

Er...estimated guess? Haha

i don't know where these students got it from, but I remember reading some posts about students getting percentages from admissions officers for the various studios.

usc film is probably harder to get into than tisch (undergrad)...its los angeles so there are actually a lot of known actors who are more prone to attend usc than tisch.
as a side note, i've enjoyed more movies made/performed by tisch students (oscar would agree with me).

Plus, you're less likely to be killed in a crack deal gone wrong at NYU... Take that USC!

lol probably true considering at nyu, haley joel osment isn't the fighting type

**** Haley Joel Osment goes to NYU? Damn, I'm so out of it, lol.

Haley is in drama, not film.

This is a few years late, but Tisch film receives about 9000 applications for about 275 spots. That is an acceptance rate of approximately 3.3%, at least for my class of 2014.

For incoming freshmen its around 2% and for transfers its under 1%
