Hi! Recently, I have received acceptance letters from both USC Cinema&Television and NYU Tisch Film& Television.

I live in southern California, about forty minutes away from USC.

I am really divided between the two schools, and I would like to ask for help!! Any recommendations?
Does anybody have any idea which school is tougher to get in?
What are the stats?
Which one should I choose?

And.. also, I was admitted to USC Film for Spring 2007 semester.
But I love California...

I don't think one is tougher to get into than the other... honestly.. i just think it would come down to like... thousandths...

I think if you are sure you want to go hollywood you should go USC. But if you're not so sure... go NYU...
or visit and pick both and pick purely on your gut instinct on everything (besides the film programs themselves).

if california's where your heart is, you should go there. both programs seem to be quite on level with each other. the only reasons i didnt even apply to usc were because 1) i didnt feel california was the right next step for me (which clearly isnt an issue for you because you live there :-D) and 2) i just preferred the nyu program. so they're both great, but since you say you love california so much, id probably recommend staying there.

ah, I have that choice as well. But I've made my decision - NYU for sure. Why? Well, I do live in NY so NY is where my heart is. In addition, I prefer the NYU, living in the city lifestyle, as opposed to USC where while its in LA, you need a car to go places. The big thing for me though was that in the NYU film program, you start film classes right away. At USC, you only take a film history class for your first 3 semesters, and THEN you start. That really bothers me, so that was my big decision maker.

Every person is different though, so make a pro and con list!

i really think the programs are both equally awesome. what it comes down to is where you would rather go to school.... LA or NY? do you want the community feel that usc has.... or do you want the artistic/individualistic feel of nyu? also, are you into sports (usc football)? i also live about 30-40 minutes from usc and my high school is the 3rd largest represented high school at usc, but i decided to go to nyu.

From what I personally know, USC is more Hollywood-oriented and Tisch is more independent. And since USC is more Hollywood-oriented, more people looking to go to Hollywood go to USC, and thus a Tisch degree is worth more (well, even though they aren't worth much in Hollywood). But you can't go wrong with either, and along with UCLA and AFI (graduate only, though), they're the best film schools in the country.

Haha, wow, I'm in about the exact same situation you're in. I live close to USC and got into their film school Spring 2007 semester as well as getting into NYU's film school, and I have no idea what school to choose. What my family is going to do is get a tour at USC (we've already gone to Saturday at the Squareat NYU), and then do as much research as possible into both schools so we can make some sort of informed decision, despite the location.

I applied under Modern Culture and Media at Brown which is essential a film program. I had an interview with a Brown alumna and she graduated with a degree in that field. So from the interview I had learned that if you want to do more Hollywood-type films you should go to USC. If you prefer more of a theory/artsy type go to the Brown program (Todd Haynes graduated...the guy who did Far From Heaven with Julianne Moore) and if you are in between...then NYU's Tisch is the place.
