To everyone mentioning Mork’s family scholarships, I am pretty sure that there will be no more of those, because they improperly managed funds, so they are out of money for that.
@pterosprite Thank you. So NMSF cannot be considered for a full tuition scholarship? I can’t be offered 1/4 since I already have 1/2 if accepted, correct? Same I can’t be offered an interview for Presidential. So basically I will not find out until March.
@Dinka7 they are just two separate scholarships, you are still eligible for a merit scholarship if you applied before 12/1 and still get a NMSF scholarship
@pennh10 my film was a short non-fiction film about a major revolutionary war event that took place in my town. MY personal experience was about my life growing up with ADHD. My creative essay was a dystopian story called “Addiction.” It basically questions if water if the reason all living beings die. It follows a 16 year old girl (this sort of dystopian plot is overrated, I know, but t felt most"me") on her journey to save humanity and all that lol. Too complicated to explain but yeh…I really hope we can all get in! Good luck to all of you!
@Dinka7 they are completely different processes. An NMSF can be invited for these scholarships, any of them, Dean’s, Trustees or Presidential.
NMSFs do not get any particular notice now … and being NMSF is no guarantee of admission even.
The half-off tuition is only for NMF anyway, and those aren’t even named yet – although if you didn’t get a letter knocking you out, i guess you can assumed you advanced!
Once admitted, AND if you advance to NMF AND if you name USC your top school with NMSC by the deadline you will get 1/2 off tuition. That happens later …
Letters just went out yesterday, and from what I can tell the only people who received them today live in California. I would expect people will be getting letters still on Monday, Tuesday and maybe even later depending where they live.
So don’t give up hope yet!
@MidwestMomTo2 were there actually anyone who received letters today? :0
@chubii yes, look up in the thread… a couple posted here and at least one more on the parents of 2016 thread
@MidwestMomof2 oh woah I somehow missed these posts haha… thanks!
@chubii no problem. they’re kind of buried up there. good luck!
@MidwestMomTo2 I live in Socal (like 1 hour away from USC without traffic) and I didn’t receive it haha… asked one of my friends and he said he got it, so I think I wasn’t selected :\
Thank you again though!
Are you sure that NMSF won’t hear back early with an offer of some sort? Because I thought that when you hear back in late January, it’ll either be an offer of admission + scholarship or it’ll be a "you’re out of the running for merit scholarships, you’ll hear back in late March. That wouldn’t really make sense if a NMSF got a “you’re out of the running” letter but would eventually get the finalist scholarship, given that the SF advances to F. Does that make sense? I’m just a bit confused.
I just received mine, and I live about an hour away from the campus. What exactly does it mean to be a finalist for the trustee scholarship? I know I have to interview, but how many people are in my position and how many actually receive the money? It seems odd that they offer me a chance at a full-tuition scholarship but give no guarantee of anything.
They give out about 100 awards for the Trustee scholarship. I can’t answer your other questions, but I can clear up your confusion of the last bit.
They have to narrow down the pool somehow before they choose 100 out of the approx. 20,000 people that apply before Dec. 1 (Don’t quote me on that number; it’s an approximation from a previous year I saw on another post)
The interview process determines whether or not you get that scholarship. You’re being considered for one scholarship that gives full tuition. It’s not like, you did pretty well so we’ll give you some of the scholarship; it’s all or nothing for the merit scholarships.
It’s like applying for a job, and being told that you’re a finalist for whether or not you get it, but you have to go through another round of interviews so they can narrow it down. You are being offered the chance at a job, but no guarantee of anything.
@ClassOf2020x based on previous year’s thread, i am pretty certain of what i posted.
first you have to be admitted, then you have to decide to go there and select it as your top school with NMSC, then you get the half off tuition award. see this part of this link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1719773-official-usc-class-of-2019-results-discussion-thread-p62.html
A student posted the text of the letter saying they did not get admitted at this time. I marked the important part to read:
''I am writing to first-year candidates who submitted their applications by December 1, in time for consideration for USC merit scholarships. I want to update you on the status of our admission review, and our scholarship selection process.
Scholarship Selection
Nearly 29,000 students applied in time to be considered for merit scholarships. We have offered admission to approximately 1,200 students who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps Leadership, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships.
…, I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.

READ THIS >>>>> Your application will still be considered for other awards listed on our Scholarships page, and I encourage you to apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Visit the Financial Aid website for application instructions. Also, if you are admitted, named a National Merit Finalist and select USC as your first-choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship worth one-half tuition.<<<<<<<

Admission Selection and Notification
Your application is still being considered for admission. We are planning to offer admission to approximately 8,000 additional first-year students. We will mail these notifications so you have the decision by April 1. I am grateful for your patience as you wait for us to finish this difficult work.
Mid-Year Reports
If you or your school counselor has not already done so, please submit your mid-year report: your final grades from the first term of your senior year. You can report them online at you.usc.edu, or your school can send them to us."

@MidwestMomof2 Thanks for clearing that up! Guess I probably won’t be getting an admissions decision this week but that’s okay Patience is key.
@maytheforce I don’t use myUSPS so not sure if you’d get notified… I live in the greater LA area and I found it waiting on my doorstep. Thank you so much! I wouldn’t worry too much, wait it out a few days as agonizing as that may sound. The mail is weird
@chailatte25 Yes, I am! Thank you so much
@cymotrichous wait so you didnt get it in the mailbox?
Congrats to everyone who’s been admitted so far!
I made a stats-only discussion for USC Class of 2020, and I (as well as everyone else on this forum) would greatly appreciate it if you filled in your stats and your decision, even if it was a deferral. You can find it on the USC forum front page.
Again, a huge congratulations to everyone!
Is neuroscience a hard major to get in to at USC?
