***USC Class of 2021 Discussion/Results Thread***

From bay area: came home from class and found I got in for Marshall!! (fall admit)

camillepowers what high school do you go to? My daughter and her friend go to Whitman. Neither one got anything today.

Posting on here for my friend waiting for her letter, we live outside houston, when should she expect it? And if not when should she check her portal? Please @ me if you have an answer, I’m not subscribed to this thread. Thank you so much :))

@cjchasinglife what part of the bay??

Congrats to all who were accepted. Amazing to look at the link with all of the academic stats of those who were accepted. I saw someone with an 28 ACT C and 3.7 GPA, no AP classes. My stats were much higher and I was denied. I live in GA- my neighbor, who is #1 in her class but goes to a different HS tho in my same county, was early accepted last month. Being up against her geographically must have killed me.

What does it mean to be accepted to Spring term? I was looking at some other discussion threads and some people were saying that it means the applicant’s scores and stats weren’t high enough but that they liked the recs and essays. Is there any merit to that? My scores are high and my gpa is high as well, so I am not sure what to think

Well, I guess being in the 2 day zone, acceptances and rejections arrive on the same day because we just received our rejection (San Diego).

Reflection

Strengths:Essays, Dual Enrollment?
Weaknesses:Test scores, amount of extracurriculars
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:I guess they saw I was motivated and that I was a good investment?!
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: UCD (in w/honors), UCSC (in, waitlisted at honors), UCLA (in), Cornell (in via likely letter), UCB, Brown, Harvard, Bambi (AKA Vanderbilt), Stanford EA (rejected)

General Comments : From what I’ve seen at my school, a good SAT/ACT won’t really help, but a bad one will definitely hurt, so study! Focus on your essays and have a lot of people look over them. Also edit them yourself. I think I made like 15 different versions of my personal statement. A lot of editing! Also, even though this is overused, be yourself! I think that was my biggest downfall for Stanford, though there’s no way to know, of course. Just make sure that your voice shines through. Like if you dropped your essay, someone could pick it up, read a bit of it, and immediately know it was yours.

@myreeeeen South Bay (near Cupertino area)

Has anyone from MN received a box?

What school do you go to in pittsburgh? What r ur stats if u don’t mind sharing? @amazinganna

@letsshare Berkeley is my first choice, so fingers crossed for that acceptance! If not, I’ll probably attend UCSD.

@wormholes it is Harvard. Am waiting on other Ivies and maybe get aid there.
@cdnoready thx for advice on oaklahoma. I will look into that idea.
I know I am lucky but the idea of 70K a year is astronomical.
@wormholes what is your first choice. I also got into UCSB as regent scholar so some $ there

Sorry @roonilwazlib100 - I was rooting for you. Gosh, UCB would be fantastic though - my D wants to go there just for the music scene (saw 21 Pilots there last spring or whenever that was). My fingers crossed too - good thoughts all around.

@CADREAMIN much appreciated! My sister attends UCB as well, so I’m familiar with the school and already have a community there. It would be a dream to attend. Best of luck to your daughter!

@Ketchup1 First choice is probably UCSD as of now. If I got into Penn I’d go in a heartbeat though!

@Floridastudent1 There is nothing about being a spring student admit that says you are less of an acceptable student in any way. Do not let anyone feed you that baloney. You are an accepted student, plain and simple. There just isn’t enough room. Your major made have had just too many darn good kids. Believe me, they turn away so many fantastic, stellar kids, they aren’t taking the “B” team admits in the spring or at any time. There is no “B” team at USC. What you guys don’t get is just how fantastic your generation is - no bs. Your generation is producing more great students than the system can handle, and many many of them want to attend USC.

hey guys, I didn’t get into USC, but my rejection letter at the bottom says, “Your eventual enrollment at USC is of great interest to us, so I invite you to consider the Trojan Transfer Plan, which will assist you in gaining admission to USC as a transfer student with the next two or three semesters…” I read on this and everyone who was offered this plan, and went with it, was admitted to USC.

I’m most likely going to attend UCSB this fall, and then transfer to USC after my 1st year. I think it’s almost a “guaranteed” acceptance if you go with the plan. Anyone else receive this?

@CADREAMIN I agree with your assessment of the current applicants. They are a very impressive bunch. I would only add that with the advent of the internet and the freer flow of information, the top high school students have learned what the top colleges are looking for and have adapted very well. Being an admission officer today must be a very difficult job having to turn away so many great applicants.
