@WWWard First, my heart goes out to you and your daughter, for I am in the same boat. Though I refuse to rank the schools to which I applied by the amount of want to enroll, SC was and still is a dream. I’m praying not only for you but also for myself that USPS has made some mistakes, hahaha. Second, applicants for Vanderbilt should begin hearing back on March 29th. Good luck your daughter. She’s going to go so far!
Does anyone happen to know when Vandy announces?
April 1

@letsshare Thanks.
I agree, but I am having trouble figuring out how to even jump start that process. She applied to 14 others… mainly out of an abundance of caution - since her sister went 5 & 12 in 2014.
So far, she is 6 & 2, but none of the 6 move her. There are six more decisions pending… and they include the best of the group - the super elites. But their admit rates also range from 5-11%, so we are projecting 6 new rejections.
With USC gone, if that happens, it will likely come down to UTexas, Rice and Emory… or possibly the FSU MPA program… but they only takes 20 out of 500+. She made the cut from 500+ down to 45, but she does not know if she has made the final 20. So, it will likely be among those 3 or possibly 4 options.
But realistically… none compare to USC SCA by any stretch of the imagination. FSU MPA may be the closest. The writer/director, producer and cinematographer of “Moonlight” all were in that program together.
Hopefully she will do great regardless… but picking a new path will be super difficult. We never really made it to the “what if not USC” discussion… unfortunately. Now it seems to be on our horizon.
Thanks, @kalons and good luck to you as well…
Thanks, @menloparkmom I knew they would likely commit by April 1… but I also heard they might announce even sooner. I like the idea of the 29th better lol
@seahawkboy1999 I’m on the same spectrum. GPA definitely not good enough, but EC’s, portfolio, rec (from USC alumni), etc - are on point. I applied for architecture, which is supposed to be a “talent major”, something I hope is true. I’d be surprised to see an acceptance, though. What major did you apply for?
And @WWWard, I’ve been lurking too, but I really hope your daughter gets in, I’m sure she deserves it #FightOn
@WWWard fingers crossed for your daughter!
@letsshare Yes… prom was tonight… and now I have a house full of kids downstairs for Prom part two - the house party
@gabrielmgea @Emsmom1 Thanks!
@filmstudent2 So if not USC SCA - where? what other schools were you considering? or still considering? (since you two were basically seeking the same thing)
South Florida got my acceptance package in the mail today
@WWWard Rooting for you!!!
@WWWard sounds like fun! And kudos to your daughter for enjoying her special night. Guurrll is resilient
I applied to the Business school! I’m not quite sure which is the most competitive but I hear the business school which makes me regretful for applying to it. For some reason I know I’m gonna get rejected but i’m still so nervous!
I hope we both get in @seahawkboy1999!
Good luck to all of you! Hopefully good news by tonight <3. Stay strong no matter what because we had put all our gray matter into the applications already, so whether is a yes or no, we will not be regret.
@piksla Thanks!
@letsshare yes - much more so than I am…
In truth, she thinks of film school or college in general as just an extra tool. She is already in negotiations with a FL production company about developing a script she wrote into a series pilot for cable tv. So part of her is super resilient and thinking that she will go forth and conquer regardless. But the other part of her also realizes the huge disappointment and potential loss that an SCA rejection represents. It is the oldest and most well-respected film school in the world for many reasons… including its alumni network and industry connections. And that all cannot just be replicated at another elite college. There is but one SCA… and she knows that too.
But yes - I applaud her spunk and am proud of her taking it all in stride - at least so far.
Very very very weird admissions results. I was accepted and I love USC, my sister was a trojan, but I am really seeing an arbitrary set of acceptances and rejections. I wish I could sit in on some of these admission boards when they are making decisions to see the process. Happy I got in but deeply confused regarding some of the acceptances and rejections. Honestly, you will all end up somewhere you love and looking back four years from now it will be foolish to think a single institution will solely grant you any sort of life-altering experience.
Dang that is pretty impressive @wwward! Good for her. I told my son to hang on to any rejection letters he gets, possibly frame them to remember that other’s choices do not define him and that he can succeed regardless.
@letsshare Yes… Indeed.
I have always found it interesting to listen to people like Warren Buffet or others when talking about their successes… and then they often also find a way to point out which colleges rejected them.
The Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) love mentioning their USC SCA rejection now. And of course, Steven Spielberg was famously rejected THREE times by SCA. A billion + dollars later, and he is doing okay.
But… I’d still prefer the admission lol
@aeskimo congrats!
[-O< praying for her [-O<
Ok I think I can put this one to bed…the valedictorian at my D’s HS (Monmouth county NJ) got her package today so there’s no chance here. Yeah she’s the one who just applied to see if she could get in…no intention of going. Even worse she’s my D’s ex-best friend. Smart kid…great in science and math but a big fat zero otherwise…literally has no capacity to put together an interesting sentence. My D auditioned for the BFA Acting as well as interviewed in person for the BA. We also did a tour last year. She is very well spoken and always makes a great impression on adults (even at a very young age). There you go @WWWard like you said! Looks like it’s going to be CaLARTS or LMU for her…
@marg928, that stinks, about that other girl. Do you think USC would only accept one student from your child’s school?
