USC Class of 2022

Thank you WWWard!

The football penalties were a travesty of justice compared to the (non) punishments levied fro shenanigans going on at Miami, UNC, Ole Miss, and others. Even just about every college football sportswriter consider it an outrage.

@hannahmars18 Congratulations on your acceptances! But it seems like a better idea to start a different thread for your question. You may want to post in both USC and UCLA but consider that there may be inherent biases on each board.

Yeah; I don’t think there are many sports programs out there that could pass the scratch test.

@sleepyeyed2 finally dozed off.

Hi, what’s the exact wording on your rejection letter indicating you are offered TTP? Because I don’t find it on mine. Thank you!

Congratulations to those accepted. I keep reading posts from students denied admission who flash all their ECs and achievements and they ask if it was all for nothing. My question is this–When you were playing in the band, or starting an after-school tutoring program, or campaigning for class president was it only to put it on your USC application?

I hope not. All those ECs and achievements have made you who you are. You will carry those experiences with you and you are the better for them. Thank you for the music you created, thank you for the children you reached, thank you for your leadership. Now take those experiences and make the world a better place wherever you go.

@museoffire I think you may be onto something that Admissions folks have told me. When you get past a certain number of EC’s or the EC’s look too varied or disjointed, it starts to look like the purpose may have been to look good on an application rather than just a passion of the applicant.

Accepted to Dornsife! Will NMF Presidential Scholarship notifications be released with fin aid info on the 27th?

@WWWard @CADREAMIN How many ppl do you think got the TTP? and thanks for all the help that you guys have been giving!

@hannahmars18

Congrats! Both are great universities… but clearly, they are also quite different from each other - and despite both being in L.A. Have you visited both? That could go a long way in helping you or anyone in a similar situation decide.

USC of course is private. It is also smaller, offers smaller class sizes in most instances, seems to offer greater flexibility in terms of majors, minors, doubling majors, etc. You would likely graduate in 4 yrs and could do so with multiple minors or two majors and a minor, etc. Both could be equally as expensive if you are full pay OOS. If FA is involved, USC will likely be less expensive for your family. UCLA is public. The class sizes will be likely larger. Like most public universities, the GE requirements tend to be more extensive, making it harder to graduate in 4 yrs and especially while having a double major or numerous minors, etc.

Truthfully, I prefer the UCLA location… but both have very nice campuses. My daughters had zero interest in attending a public university and did not even apply to UCLA… so my research is limited. Others may be able to add more insights. But the #1 thing should be to visit both… compare your planned majors – looking at requirements, GEs, etc. in each school’s catalogue. And then make the decision that is right for you and your family. For Communication, it is hard to go wrong with USC. They offer suburb new facilities and are very highly ranked as well. I do not know anything about Communication at UCLA.

Best of luck. You have a tough decision ahead of you.

@jelly39 you’re welcome

@candylover132 you’re welcome. I am not sure I have ever seen official #s on how many are offered TTP. Maybe someone else has and can share such info with you.

@WWWard Where is the link to the class profile that someone posted a few days back?

Does anyone know how financial aid works for Thornton people?

@hannahmars18 - My husband went to UCLA and USC. Not sure if you have comparable scholarship $$ at both schools. If you are full pay or close, I don’t think there is any question that USC is a MUCH better choice. For the same price, you are getting all the private school perks, assistance, etc. UCLA is a much larger school and can be pretty cutthroat (my husband and his friends had to sleep in the lab to stop people from sabotaging lab projects). If you are in-state, UCLA is a smoking deal. But OOS, I would choose USC every time. Why pay for filet mignon but get hamburger?
