I didn’t get anything in NorCal
For those asking, Been tracking this stuff for 6 years with 4 admitted to USC during that time (no we did not buy them a building). Been on CC through it all. Only thing that has differed is day of week for mailing. Of course they can change it up, but schools tend to do things the same year after year.
So I am sticking with portal update after midnight tonight.
Portal update history- the first report of update last few years: PST time zone so 3-4am east coast
12:18am 2017
1:10am 2016
12:32am 2015
And yes, every year calls to admissions say something different. They aren’t gonna tell you on the phone this week. If they did they would have posted it. Why ruin the surprise they invest so heavily in? Now they are finally posting that it is happening tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow is after midnight.
Could I be wrong? Sure, they can change it up, they are in charge. But gonna put it out there and see what happens. It’s the internet, people are wrong all the time.
^^^ Maybe Admissions should just refer callers here lol
@ZNanoKnight weighted 4.03, ACT 34
I live in southern PA and I didn’t get a package today but I did get a slim white letter including a booklet about financial aid. It says the letter was from the 9th but i just got it. Does this mean I won’t be getting a package inviting me to interview for a scholarship? I’m really freaking out and even though I know I won’t be denied now it’s just stressi me out further about regular decision day:(((
PORTALS - Be sure your you.usc account is established
IF YOU ARE ADMITTED (some may not have got box yet and will find out here they are admitted).
On your you.usc homepage there is usually a new “In USC” button or similar on your page and your portal updates with this:
Admission
Admission Decision
Enrollment Commitment Deposit
Withdraw Your Application
Submit Documents
Financial Aid
Apply for Financial Aid
Financial Aid Summary & Tasks (FAST) page
On-Campus Admitted Student Programs
Explore USC
Preview USC
Admitted Student Day
Campus tours
Off-Campus Admitted Student Programs
Apply for Housing
IF YOU DID NOT GET PACKAGE, YOU WILL GET ADMISSION RESULTS IN MARCH.
What changes is “new message” when you hit application status and it will be a link to a letter. It’s called “Information About the Scholarship Process.”
Once they update the portal, they also email you. So you really do not need to keep refreshing and trying to check the portal. The very same letter that they post, will be emailed to you as well. I have posted this a few times but here is beginning of that letter:
Dear (Student),
I am sending this update to first-year candidates who submitted applications by December 1, the deadline for USC merit scholarship consideration.
Scholarship Selection
Nearly 32,000 students applied in time to be considered for USC merit scholarships. We have offered admission to approximately 1,200 students who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships. (Student), I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.
Has anyone in Indiana heard anything yet?
@CADREAMIN You mean the youSC account? Or is you.usc different?
@CADREAMIN idk how you do it but you are keeping us all sane. Thanks for all you do
you.usc.edu and youSC are the same, sorry for that confusion.
Got white box in MD! Presidential scholarship!
3.93 UW/ 4.63 W 33 ACT superscore
Black first gen girl interested in CS.
My real question is if the original price was 25k with financial aid and 16k with loans and work-study, how much would the presidential scholarship bring down that price?
Nothing here in NorCal (San Jose) but I wasn’t expecting anything. My “statistically superior” friend did not receive anything either.
Received in central VA
@amburger77 Aww man. My hopes of getting a white box just dropped drastically. Congrats though! I think I know you from AoPS
@billybobby54. Thank you, very sweet!
Frankly, I think CC is a stressfest and it can be better to never know it exists during these few days. But for those that do (and I always did), I would rather see people get as much accurate info rather than crazy random theories. Watching people spend hours setting up UPS accounts when it is sent USPS was maddening, and not knowing when stuff happens is too hard on everyone.
It ends up being great for the 1200 that do get a box - who minds the hassle then? But if you have all this time and stress, then don’t get a box (hello 30,000 students) why make it so uncertain for them? Kids just don’t understand they are competing with the world, so many think because they are #1 in their little world, that a scholarship must be a sure thing. Not. A lot of disappointment in the college process.
When I first came on here, things weren’t so automated and they didn’t update portal or send out a “no scholarship letter” until a week or two AFTER packages. So you literally had people waiting at the mailbox for 10 days hoping it was just lost or delayed. I watched my friend’s daughter fall apart for days. Can you imagine going through this for a week more? ugh city.
@WWWard lol last post. Seriously. I was really laughing when callers were being told not all packages were out and they would be sent between Tues and Feb 1st, versus all at once like they have ALWAYS done. That’s when I really knew to stand by our predictions! They were giving callers some straight up hooey there.
But in their defense, they don’t want to spoil the surprise, that is their thing.
@SEArent . Thank you for the insightful analysis. Cross fingers for tomorrow’s portal check. None of my Norcal friends received the box.
I don’t know, that seems like straight up torture to me, to imply that a box may still be coming when it’s not.
Did anyone in Texas receive anything?
Crickets in San Diego. My daughter will get the NMF 1/2 tuition if accepted, so we were mostly eager to find out if she was accepted. Guess we wait now until March like the other 97%. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!
