USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Anyone applying to WBB this year?

Usuallyā€¦ someone on campus will spot the extra USPS trucks or someone within Admissions will let it slip or Admissions themselves will post to social media by dayā€™s end on the day they go out. There is of course still time today for such to occur. My guessā€¦ based on prior yearsā€¦ is that they will be mailed out via USPS Priority Mail (delivery thus depending on where you live) either today or tomorrow at the latest.

So good luck to those hoping for such an early decision in January due to moving forward with the merit scholarship process. Just keep in mind though that only around 3% (or 1200) of those who applied by December 1st will be so fortunate. They are also divided up by the various USC Schools, making it more competitive for a # of programs. And do not lose faithā€¦ 86% of all current and prior USC students ultimately learned their fate in Marchā€¦ not January.

@WWWard Thanks for the info! Do you know which programs or schools are likely more competitive?

My daughter has applied to WBB. She is highly interested in the program. We have our fingers crossed.

SCA acceptance 4% and engineering in the 8% range last I heard, donā€™t remember Marshall rate, but certainly one of the more competitive.

I assume that applicants with music (Thornton) as a first choice major and an academic subject as a second choice, will not be in the running for this first round of merit scholarships?

Why?

Those who do not audition will receive their acceptances with everyone else. thereā€™s several majors within Thornton that is music, but not performance based. Thornton audition majors are handled on their timeline independently through the Thornton office.

Congratulations to your D! It was love at first sight (or visit!) when my D toured USC last summer and the wait is agonizing. Her stats are certainly not in the upper range for USC, but she is extremely passionate and community minded, which she hopes to have conveyed in her essays. I never anticipated the process would be so hard as a parent wanting the school to see the whole person beyond test scores and GPA, and it is heartening to hear that USC takes that approach. In terms of letting the school know it is her top choice, is it worth an email to her designated USC admissions counselor on top of what was conveyed in essays, or is that viewed as ā€˜buggingā€™ do you think?

@AggieMom68 Ha! Iā€™m glad someone found my post about WBB from last year helpful. A quick update on this year ā€¦apparently last years WBB class ended up bigger than planned (higher yield = 60+ kids vs. 50) and as a result they will likely offer less WBB spots this year. Good luck later this week!

@quantjock - I will second that your post on WBB was amazing and super helpful, even more so since itā€™s newer/smaller program and not that much true experience info is out there. Great to have an insider view!

Iā€™m sorry if this is repetitive, but I was not aware that certain programs were given a set number of merit scholarships to award as opposed to choosing from the entire pool of 40,000 students, and I was wondering if that is only select programs or if every program is set up in that way??

Anyone know if all of the WBB admits are selected in january? or can you get into WBB in march too?

Somehow I thought that irrespective of the merit scholarship, all those who applied before Dec. 1 will hear back on Feb 1. Isnā€™t that the idea for an early application?

Hi there! Do they always post a photo or tweet when they send out the merit scholarships? Iā€™ve been checking the admission social media and they havenā€™t posted it so Iā€™m not so hopeful they will be mailed today :frowning: However, I went through old posts and also didnā€™t see a post regarding when they sent out merit scholarships last year! So maybe theyā€™ll still be sent out today, just not posted about???

@AggieMom68 the merit scholarship deadline is not considered an ā€œearly applicationā€ in the way may colleges do it

What merit scholarships are available for international students? Also, if one is selected for a scholarship, does one need to commit to USC prior to April 1st?

@johnjohns Yes, international students are considered as equally as highly as domestic student. If one if selected, Iā€™m pretty certain you are required to commit at the same time as most other schools, which is May 1.

They do not post a pic of the merit decisions getting loaded on that trucks, they do that in March for regular decisions.

No difference for intā€™l students, same pool, same rules, commit by May 1st.

anyone hear if packages actually came today??
