USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

@lisalisae Congrats to your son on UNC! (but wow, those stats, one would assume he would be in everywhere, I know, ugh). My similar high stat CA daughter also got accepted to UNC for CS/Engineering a couples years back, very low % of OOS there, so it was a big deal. Everyone thought she should go and frankly, we simply ran out of time in April to give it a chance (and there was a random phone call involved that may have changed everything but I digress…) What I wanted to point out is, after acceptance she received info on not only honors, got good $, but was also invited to be part of a research program that met/worked with high end Professor’s and Deans - it was quite an elite program and normally for upperclassmen. So be on the lookout for something like that. Also, get those trips planned yesterday, tours fill up and airfares go nuts.

He really may get into UCB - seems perfect type for that. I get where you are, feel free to PM with any questions, I have been through this 4 times!

Where are you from state wise?

@niconiconii I come from a “family” like yours…I came from one is a better way of putting it. But then I went out into the world and created my family. found my tribe., you will do the same. hang in there. your people await anxiously for you.

Wishing the best to those who will be choosing another wonderful school. Fight On!

@infotime. It is very flawed process that is destroying many young lives.

Can’t believe I got accepted! I was wondering if anyone who received a scholarship (not the ones pertaining to February) had information put on the portal. I got in but nothing about scholarships was on my portal and my box hasn’t come yet. I am interested to know if it is still possible to get a scholarship.

@CADREAMIN Your comment about running out of time for trips planned elsewhere and all that resonates. I feel like at this point when getting into similar caliber schools where some you’ve visited and liked whereas others are far away and would require a last minute trip, these factors do play in. We have D3 who is a sophomore now in HS and has been dragged along on more college trips than either D1 or D2, but now seems maybe the time to ID some potential ED schools and tour them early for that option, if that makes sense. Thank you so much for all your help on this journey. We are so thrilled our D2 was got the white box and accepted today. Still feels surreal.

I GOT IN!!! I’m an international applicant and didn’t get any notice from DHL… So I was sure I’d get rejected

I can totally relate. My son uwt GPA 4.0, 35 ACT, published research paper, hrs of community service, fundraising over $3000 for local hosp, teach violin for low income families, great letter of rec fr teachers, and yet get rejected by USC, UCLA. He lost all hope now for Berkeley. This is so frustrating as a parent seeing your child had worked so hard to be completely crushed by their dream school. ?

Does anyone know if USC gives scholarships to regular admits? I really wasn’t planning on attending USC, but now that I’ve been accepted, it would be nice to attend at a lower cost.

@YoungAp2002 USC offers scholarships to first year applicants who submitted by December 1, 2018. I think it is too late to apply for scholarships now

Congrats to everyone who got in really!! Im an international student who got accepted and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much because I had gotten waitlisted at UCLA just yesterday!! Im a little surprised because I didn’t think I really had a spike. I had 1480 SAT, just did the usual community service but I really focused on my essays. I think I’m still much more inclined to go to UCSD right now but we’ll see!!!

Hey i need someones opinion here,
I am an international student, with 1430 on the SATs, I applied to business schools to study finance. I got accepted to USC, UNC, UVA, Notre Dame and Boston College.
I have NO IDEA how i got in and what to pick!!

Received white package yesterday (Midwestern Region - IL)
1380 SAT
30 ACT
Competitive volleyball for 6+ years
(4 year varsity player, multiple championships, All Tournament Selection, National Junior Championships Bronze Medalist)
120+ service hours (including overseas in Thailand and UChicago Hospitals)
Strong personal statement essay
Strong supplemental essay
Student Government Executive Board
Head Organizer in Hashtag Lunchbag Event (700 lunches made and donated to local homeless shelter)
Employed at the same establishment since sophomore year
Lastly, I’m beyond grateful and blessed.

Son accepted to Annenberg from NJ!!! No box yet. 36 ACT, 3.98UWGPA, all honors/AP classes, sports editor of school paper, strong leadership ECs, excellent recommendations and very strong essays. I really think the difference for him was his teacher recommendations and his essays.
So many kids have high stats, really surprised by his acceptance!!

How do you know if your rejection was an accident?

I do not thank that any rejection is an accident. Each application was read by a few set of eyes. They are too may qualified applicants. They have to pick what they want.

USC admissions Twitter account just posted that merit scholarship decisions will be available “early next week” - looks like Monday it is.

@CADREAMIN , knock me down with a feather! Not admitted, but invited to apply for the transfer program. Surprised.

Does financial aid and other merit scholarship (not pres., etc.) come out Monday too?

I was shocked my son was rejected by CS, we applied USC for its merit based scholarship. He has SAT 1600, only one A- in a very competitive public high school, enough EC and leadership, many volunteer hours. He is also waitlist by UCLA. Seems CA schools don’t care much on students from east coast.
