I have a McCarthy Honors College roommate search question. Is there a roommate search option that allows you to find other potential McCarthy roommates?
I am not sure if this was already discussed but recommendations for a place to stay when attending orientation? I will have siblings with me. Thank you!
@pshiao You can keyword search for almost anything… including dorm names if someone may have mentioned such in their own profile.
@Anxiousmomof3 When possible, we stay at the USC Hotel https://uschotel.usc.edu/. We have also stayed at the Line Hotel in Koreatown https://www.thelinehotel.com/los-angeles/ and the JW Marriott at LA Live in Downtown LA. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxjw-jw-marriott-los-angeles-la-live/ You can always just go to hotels.com and search for hotels near USC and enter in options like price, ratings, stars, etc.
@WWWard thank you! I am leaning towards USC hotel. Is it worth it to stay in Santa Monica or is just too out of the way for orientation and move in type events?
@ ACIM322 Do not stay at the Vagabond! USC Hotel is acceptable. Clean, basic and walking distance to the campus.
@ACIM322 You’re welcome. The USC Hotel is nice, and the location is key. It’s up to you… but depending on the time of day or traffic, etc., a commute from Santa Monica could range from 25-45 minutes. Downtown L.A. is more like 5-10 minutes. Koreatown 20-30 minutes. The USC Hotel is often booked though… so booking it early is important.
For downtown LA, Hotel Indigo is very nice. We stayed there when we visited in September and again when my son auditioned in February.
USC Hotel is pretty nice. On campus, very convenient.
As an update… my daughter received her notification today via email that she was awarded a place as a Fulbright UK Summer Institute Scholarship recipient. She will be attending the Film and Media program at the University of Birmingham in England this summer. It is a three week program, July to August. She is of course very excited. It is a great opportunity for her to expand on her current film studies at USC SCA.
As I mentioned earlier on this thread, those planning to enroll at USC should at some point take a look at all of the info found here… https://ahf.usc.edu/
The Academic Honors and Fellowships Staff helps undergraduates… whether admitted with a merit scholarship or not… in terms of mapping out their undergraduate career with an eye towards either USC honors, scholarships and awards while an undergraduate or external scholarships, grants, fellowships and the like for the years beyond USC.
For example, in my daughter’s case (who was not an USC merit scholar), they had reached out to her back in November simply due to her current GPA about applying for the Fulbright UK Summer Institute Scholarship that she was just awarded ( http://www.fulbright.org.uk/going-to-the-uk/uk-summer-institutes ).
We are so thankful that they did so, or she would have never even heard of this great opportunity.
@WWWard – that is fantastic news. Congratulations to your daughter!
@WWWard Awesome news for you all! Sooo happy for you, what a time it will be for her!
@WWWard woohoo! that’s wonderful news!
Thanks, @lkbux64 , @CADREAMIN , @romns116
Yes… we are very proud of her, and she is of course super excited. It will be her first real trip abroad (other than a Caribbean cruise). And what a great place to spend a few weeks this summer
@Momofthreedogs @CollegeOdyssey2001 any updates on tuition exchange?
My D and I are visiting USC on Apr 23 (Explore USC Program) Ironically, she’s been accepted to colleges she visited, but she wants to go to USC which she hasn’t visited. I hope I can find some compelling reasons why USC is her favorite. Actually USC is the most expensive compared to other comparables.
We found out today that another USC SCA current student was a Fulbright UK Summer Institute Scholarship recipient for the Film and Media program at the University of Birmingham in England. They only awarded scholarships to 6 applicants overall, and 2 are from SCA. So congrats to him too Fight On!
@singingbear Explore will provide your answers either way! Enjoy!
Does USC financial aid office communicate via email? We cannot find their email address.
@mang01980 Use this link… and then you can fill out an email form from this webpage:
@VryCnfsd Yes, both D19 and S19 received Tuition Exchange on April 9th. A great day for us, as both now have full tuition plus! If you are interested in our TE results, I posted them on the Financial Aid & Scholarships thread…

Thanks for asking! Are you also a USC TE parent? USC has the best TE program–the gold standard!
