USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Thank you very much @CADREAMIN !!!

What are some options for lodging prior and just after Move in Day?

Hello! Sorry if this has been asked before but is there any advantage in signing up for an earlier Orientation date? It would make sense to me that the earlier dates would have a better first pick at classes.

@enroute Not really. They reserve a # of the key GE course spots (for the courses that all freshman take) for each of the orientation sessions.

^^Agree, plus you have so many classes to take as a freshman there are plenty to choose from. Go when it is good for you to go.

Did anyone else receive an invite for the Marshall Global Leadership Program?

I just got an email today and said the program is available through “select invitation”. I don’t know anything about this program and am very surprised as I think of myself as a very average or below average USC admit.

Anyone have insight they can share on this program? Can’t seem to find much online and would love to learn more!

To @CADREAMIN and @WWWard and the rest of the folks who make this board robust, thanks for all your valuable intel. Kid decided last week and the first acceptance was the best fit, so we’ll be practicing our "Fight On"s. Could not figure out how to direct message, so if this violates, feel free to remove. It’s definitely a comfort to have reliable information during this process.

Thank you at @“CLU Mom 2012” and welcome to the Trojan Family! Super exciting time for you and at last, some peace
a decision has been made. Whew!

You’re welcome. And yes - congrats on the decision!

Fight On!

I have been following and posting on this thread for months now. But this is the first time I am posting as a USC parent. I am delighted to say that my son committed to Thornton last night. I look forward to being part of the Trojan Family! Fight on!

@lkbux64

Congratulations! Same here. Son officially committed to SCA last week, but I don’t remember posting the news. Now I need to change my avatar

Woooohoo, welcome to the Trojan Family!!! Where we get the best students and nicest parents too! @ikbux64 I also have a Thornton major (among a few other schools there) he will get that coveted sweatshirt and be so proud! They don’t sell the Thornton one in the bookstore (not sure why), so he should wear that with pride and not leave it on a fence or steps somewhere. @romns166 congrats on SCA, as you know @wwward knows everything there if you have any more questions, but hopefully the hard work is done and you can just watch him be happy.

I was there this weekend and had a great breakfast lunch at BBCM in the Village if anyone is looking for a place to eat while on campus.

I was thinking about starting a thread called the “Good and Bad In & Around USC” where people could post about places they eat/stay/visit/use in any regard at or around USC/LA area. Wondered if that would be helpful?

Congratulations to you too @romns116! So exciting!

And thanks, @CADREAMIN! My son might have only committed last night, but he has been wearing that Thornton sweatshirt so much since he received it a couple of days after he was accepted that I knew it was only a matter of time before he made it official!

Welcome new Trojans! I can’t believe it’s already been a year since my D was admitted and now she’s finishing up her freshman year! It goes fast! She now works in the admissions office and will be leading tours on Saturday so some of you may see her!

There is a USC Parents page and a USC Moms page on FB that are both very helpful and informative.

Congrats again!

Thanks @Marcie123 !
My wife found a FB USC Parents group, but it only had 11 people and wasn’t very active. I’m sure there are others.

Lovin’ the new Avatar @romns116!

@lkbux64 @romns116 Congrats on the decisions
and welcome to the Trojan Family. Fight On!

Exciting times for everyone!

It’s our 1st college student and never thought we’d be one of those parents proudly wearing USC DAD shirts

My son is attending Dornsife as an English major 2023. He is trying to find a roommate and , I believe, would like to live in New North. Since I am ancient (Boston College 84), I am unfamiliar with all this roommate matching stuff. He said he tried Facebook but there were not a lot of potential candidates. 1)suggestions for best ways to find a roommate ? 2)Ideal ways to snag a spot in dorm of his choice (he did register the first day possible after acceptance)
Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere.
