USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Cadreamin…does the financial aid info not come at the same time as the acceptance/rejection???

@BeCheap4me2 No… you will be able to access it online by around April 1st… assuming that your FA file is complete. i.e. - no missing items.

O, thanks. But I guess what I am asking is; let’s say that my son hears accepted (fingers crossed) but how do I mitigate his excitement if we don’t yet know about aid?

I hope he is accepted!!! It’s rough

That is certainly an issue. There are certainly students that will get in (yay!) only to realize they can’t afford it (ugh). Families have to moderate and temper the expectations after the initial woohoo. But hopefully that has been going on throughout the process. Obviously hard not to get excited. But every year, that’s gonna happen.

Thank you @17yeargap for the details!

Where are you getting March 23rd from for portal updates? The site officially says March 24th http://ask.usc.edu/app/answers/detail/a_id/193

@Zipperatom if you go onto the USC Undergraduate website, there’s a red pop up window that announces updated info of portal update at 5pm on the 23rd. They must just not have changed that other page.

guys does getting a letter by USC way before the admission process to “consider applying to their university” something that they look into or is it just like randomly sent out to kids in international schools? (even though only 5 kids including me got it from our school…)

@CADREAMIN I thought all Trustee & Presidential scholarships had been offered in the January admissions and only the smaller (freshman/dean’s) were left to be offered in the March admissions?

Yep. USC has updated the portal announcement time. It is now 5:00pm Pacific Time on Saturday, March 23rd. https://admission.usc.edu/ - thanks @reinawrites

@barbpz We were not offered the scholarships in January. We were finalists for the scholarships and had to interview for the scholarship. We will find out the final decisions around the time of Regular Decisions.

@barbpz The interview results of the Trustee and Presidential scholarships have yet to be announced. They were offered to interview for them in January which they did at Explore sessions or through other arrangements.

That’s right! My apologies - I forgot about the interview results. Good luck to all!!

Does anyone know if RHP decisions are also being mailed out on the 21st?

Yes, they should be if like previous years.

Am I the only one who thinks applications to USC will go up and their yield rate will also go up. Seems that everyone is surprised that people would actually pay to go to USC.

I saw an article that said this is the most selective year in history at USC, with an acceptance rate of around 11%

Yes, 67,000 applications with 11% acceptance rate, highest on record. Only expect applications to be higher and acceptance rates to remain very low like other elites going forward, as old stereotypes and biases have been exposed, and more people understand how selective and sought after the school has become over the last 10 years. Obviously, the people familiar with USC and those that keep current in college stats, rankings, and admitted student profiles know how highly coveted going to USC is.

USC can only accept so many students each year. As the number of applicants goes up each year, the acceptance rate will go down.
