Sent you a PM. We went in Aug 2019.
@WWWard sending you pm.
UPDATE for us: We finally received our FA package and we’re happy to announce that it was more than generous with a completely doable balance. My daughter is on CLOUD NINE that she gets to attend her #1 school - and the best film school in the country! Thanks for your help and insight @WWWard and @CADREAMIN! Here we go! #FightOn
congrats @vivienL! I bet the whole family is on could nine! Now you have peace and happiness. Good for you!
Woohoo! Been following because we were on your shoes last year (Son is 1st year CAMS). Big congratulations to you and your D! SCA is no longer a dream!
FightOn!
@VivienL Congrats! and you’re welcome. Fight On!
Great news @VivienL !! It was worth the wait then!
Housing and Aid question: In trying to plan ahead and project what the climate might be in the fall as far as housing is concerned (i.e. not letting students live on campus?) We are fortunate in that we live close to school. Does anyone have experience in removing “housing” (not meals) from your university costs and how that affects your award package? Do they take that amount away from your award balance?? Thx for any insight!
They still haven’t updated my financial aid to reflect on-campus housing. I’m a bit worried because I called last Wednesday and they said it would be updated within three business days. I’m going to recall on Monday, but May 1st is slowly approaching and it leaves me a bit worried.
@CarBarlos three business days from Wednesday would be Monday I would think, they probably were not counting the day they were talking to you as one of them - so Thursday, Friday, Monday I’d guess is three business days.
@tth722 My son is a sophomore in the BCA program. Second semester sophomore year they must have an internship. He has classes on Monday and Wednesday and interned at a sports media agency on Tuesday an Thursday (9:30-5). The university has a portal with job opportunities but he also send out tons of resumes on his own.
@WWWard @CADREAMIN Yield predictions for this year?
@googlimoogli My guess is a return to the prior norm of 32-24%. They admited circa 9500, so their own guess is 31-32%.
Do you think they will publish the yield soon after May 1st? I am watching this with respect to my daughter’s appeal chances.
From reading various things everywhere, it seems a lot of parents are looking at “close to home” options, and will not let their kids go far from home. That puts the yield for kids form outside California (let alone international) under a huge pressure.
S20 got into WBB; he’s very happy. We are now conflicted. He was leaning to Duke (Econ) or NYU Stern’s Business & Political Economy program (replacing the fuller college experience at Duke with the international instruction via NYU), but USC WBB is a tremendous opportunity. He’s fortunate to be in this position.
@WWWard Does the yield include Spring Admits (so out of 9500) or just fall admits (out of 8100). Even with 32% yield from 9500, there are still about 100-300 open spots.
@googlimoogli I know you didn’t ask me, but I am going to respond anyway. I was told by admissions that the 9,500 that they announced included 1,400 Spring admits. Of those 1,400, they expect 350-500 to enroll. I asked during one of the Zoom calls that we attended, and that was the response. Perhaps this is a departure from their usual, as I believe that they historically have excluded Spring admits from their numbers, but maybe they are working toward having more transperency when it comes to the Spring admit program.
Transfer, appeals, and people not doing study abroad (because of covid) will be taking spots as well in numbers tbd. So yield is only part of the equation. There are too many unknows to determine how many appeals work or if spring admits get bumped. The problem is last year was the first year in more than a decade that a number of spring admits got bumped (the couple years before that was zero) and there were more than 10 or so appeals over-turned of the 1100 that apply. Certainly not a pattern to predict on.
Still working towards in person fall classes YAY! This was sent out to current students today.
Summer Sessions 1 & 2
Several weeks ago we announced we would continue remote learning for Summer Session 1 (May 20 – June 30). Given the uncertainty of when stay-at-home orders will be lifted, we are now announcing that all Summer Session 2 courses (July 1 – August 11), and all related in-person activities, will be conducted online.
The grading policy for the summer sessions will revert to those used prior to the Spring 2020 semester; that is, students can elect the grade options normally available for the course and follow the regular deadlines to make their elections.
Planning for Fall 2020
We are deep into planning for a safe and appropriate return to campus of faculty, staff, research, graduate and professional, and undergraduate programs. To do so, we must take into account how best to test for the virus, contact trace, and physically separate those who come back to campus. We are focused on returning to activities in clinical care and clinical education, research, teaching, learning, and creative and athletic experiences that recognize the risks of the spread of the disease. All of this forward planning is being done with the full recognition that what we do at USC forms the foundation for successful lives and careers, and is the basis of a strong civil society. We will provide additional details on what we are calling “Project Restart” in the coming weeks and hope to announce our plans for the fall semester in the next two months, with the understanding that circumstances remain in flux.
Andddddddd…
I just committed! USC '24
My financial aid package updated and I can get free dorming for any dorm at or under $9,800 a year (or $4,900 a semester), and with a free Cardinal starter meal plan, and that excludes the Norman Topping Scholarship $4,500 money, which if I don’t ulitize turns into a semester stipend!
Truly blessed to have received such a amazing financial aid offer that’s unparalleled to any of my other schools financial aid package.
On that note, anyone has any recommendations for the best dorms to choose under $5k a semester?
