USC Class of 2027 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

You are likely right. I too suspect that availability would be unlikely. But, it does not hurt to check with USC Housing and see…

I agree. Plus, those in McCarthy aren’t likely to drop out due to academics. That said, I’m sure there are some who are homesick, have a family emergency or decide USC isn’t for them and end up leaving.

Our neighbor attended a T10 school and his roommate partied all-the-time. The roommate never went to class and ended up dropping out before midterms.

My DD received the Deans Scholarship and her merit letter said that she’s eligible for housing in McCarthy as well.
I wonder if that’s new for next year.

Deans have always qualified as well, it’s if space is available, as Pres/Trustee have priority over Deans.

Did anyone else get an invitation to join the Marshall Global Leadership Program or have any insight into it? How many kids are in it?

My daughter applied CS only. She was rejected by USC but offered VPP. She was accepted as undeclared at UCSD, pre-science at UW, UT Dallas CS and Texas A&M General engineer (can choose CS second year) and Purdue computer information and technology. What will be the best choice to prepare her for the transfer? Is the chance to get into USC through VPP higher than internal transfer from UCSD undeclared to CS? Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

My D just told me that she got the GLP invite (email). I have not personally seen the email, so can not answer your questions. But Congratulations, it’s a good thing to get!

UCSD pretty much eliminated any path from undeclared → CS.

Her best chance for VPP is where she can get the pre-reqs required - physics, math, etc., don’t see that happening at UCSD.

Thank you so much for the information! We will eliminate UCSD.

My son was in GLP, but that was back in 2011. As I recall it was about 50 kids? The trip to China is an additional expense on top of tuition and fees. Back then it was between 2K and 3K. They travel over spring break.

Scholarship recipients can apply for exceptional funding. Exceptional funding will apply their scholarship discount (half-tuition or full-tuition) to summer abroad, Maymester or units in excess of 18/semester. I doubt it will help with the China trip, but you might ask.

On youtube you can find a video “USC Marshall GLP Trip” - Spring Break 2019. Its not an official USC video. @atlasshrugged123

Thanks. Do you know yet if every rejected student received that letter/email or a limited pool? 2027 specific question.

If you are referring to TTP, it is very limited pool compared to number rejected overall. Some legacy, some not legacy.

Thanks all for responding! I also checked with USC housing. Spring admits Presidential scholarship - eligible to apply but space permits. Agreed with postings that it might be unlikely, plus my son wants to be roommate with his friend who’s not eligible. BTY, to apply for being roommates, both students have to have the same choices and same priorities. They also told me to apply on 6/30 at 9 am, as soon as the portal open (re:spring admits) FYI

You’re welcome. Yes… USC Housing has consistently said that the best formula for getting what you want is to select a roommate and then to match the two applicants’ preferences exactly. It makes their job much easier, as they can satisfy two applicants simultaneously. They will also go with the roommate with the best time spot in terms of priority.

Does anyone have any experience of going through the random roommate assignment process at USC? My kid doesn’t seem super enthused about picking someone ahead of time and I’m not sure if it’s worth it to push him…

Yes and they are very good at it. Answer the survey honestly - neat/sloppy, early bird/night owl, type of music, like to share/or not, etc. They tend to match by major as well, or at least types - engineers with math/science major - like minded intellectually. Many students go random and more than not, it works beautifully. The housing department is generally awesome at what they do.

I’m wondering if anyone knows when the town & gown scholarship decisions will come out.
