Hey guys,
I know USC has one of the best film schools and fantastic business and engineering schools, but how is there college of arts and sciences compared to other top Universities. Compare it to say, WUSTL's college of arts and sciences.

As for my interests, however, I'm undecided.

Well, I got in as CLAS. The "quality" probably depends on your possible major, so you could try looking up some prospective majors (not just ranking, but also ask around about student experience etc). As for a comparision between USC and WUSTL, I have no idea, sorry!

I can't really comment since i'm in engineering, but just a few suggestions:

Firstly I didn't know what "WUSTL" was, I had to go look it up. in the future you might want to spell things out - even though I have heard of that school. :)

As Misoobishi says quality varies by department. "arts and sciences" encompass a gigantic number of fields; one school might have an incredible physics program and another a great fine arts program, and it would be amiss to assess the whole school by the quality (or lack thereof) of individual departments

Finally, what's the meaning of "quality"? What are you looking to get out of the school: small class size, undergrad research opportunity, pure-undergrad college with emphasis on teaching only, large class size with famous professors? What is best for you varies depending on what you want.

The CLAS is generally considered a bit weaker than the professional schools. I wouldn't be able to compare it to WUSTL's because I don't know anything about the school. I can say that the strengthening of CLAS has been a primary focus of Pres. Sample and they've invested a LOT of money in hiring stronger faculty.

You also have to consider specific majors when looking at strength. For example, the philosophy department at SC is very strong and reputable and highly ranked. It's hard to compare CLAS between schools because there is such a broad range of majors.

After looking at your previous posts it seems as though you are really worried about rankings, outside perception, etc in regards to your schools. One piece of advice that I would give you is to choose you school based on how well it fits you and not how other people will percieve you. Yes, in the rankings, WUStl is a "more prestigious" school than USC, but if you hate the school than you probably wont excel there. Both schools are GREAT, so it should really come down to which you would feel more comfortable at...
