So I am worried that if I go to USC and study Computer Science, there are not many big Silicon Valley companies looking to recruit USC CS graduates. I am really looking to work at companies like NVIDIA, Apple, Google, etc. but I have heard that those companies dont even bother to look at USC students. Can any current CS students comment on this?

Bump! I have the same question

That is false. Companies do indeed come to recruit USC students, and you’re more likely to find a job at a company right after undergrad due the USCs extensive alumni network.

I’m not sure where you heard that rumor, but it’s definitely not true!

USC CS majors are highly sought after by Silicon Valley companies. Every time I go to one of the Viterbi career expos (where over 100 companies come to recruit USC engineers each semester), there are tons of opportunities for CS Majors. I have several friends who interned with Microsoft and Google (read about Chandler’s experience: [Microsoft Internship- the work part](Microsoft Internship- the work part - Viterbi Voices))

I suggest checking out the Viterbi Careers website USC - Viterbi School of Engineering - Students
Specifically, here is a list of fall 2012 and spring 2013 career expo attendees so you can see for yourself a sampling of who is actively visiting our campus to hire Viterbi CS students:

Some highlights you might appreciate: Amazon, Apple, Cisco, DIRECTV, eBay, EA, Garmin, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, NVIDIA, Raytheon, SanDisk, Symantec, VMWare, Yahoo!, and Zynga.

Viterbi Industry Networking Night is another large event held each semester where students get to network with companies one on one. Check out Rob’s blog about one VINE where he talked to recruiters from Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, and Intel, among others.
