USC Critical Studies Supplements/Chances

I am currently a freshman english major looking to transfer into USC's Cinematic Arts, and I know the chances of getting in are very slim.
I was wondering if for my writing supplement, (the instructions being "The writing sample should be a review or analysis of some aspect of film, television, or new media; a discussion or application of critical theory; or a published article") should be about film genres and broader topics or if it would still be okay if I used an essay I wrote last semester comparing two meta-films and their implications? Should I write something new?
I also don't have very much experience in film, as I am an english major, but I took one class last semester on film and fell completely in love. This means my recommendations are from 2 Grad Students in english and one in film, will this hurt more than help my chances?

Did you take 190 last semester? I think you can call the SCA admissions office and ask about using your essay from last semester. I would imagine it would be perfectly fine (and if you got a great grade/feedback on the essay even better)–but you should make sure. Best of luck.

No, I actually go to Boston University right now, hoping to transfer into USC. My essay is from a “Literature and the Art of Film” class I took from last semester. I only started my application a few days ago when I really realized it was what I wanted to do, and why not go for it, right? But that said, I don’t have a lot of experience in film or a lot of time to make a new essay, so that’s why I thought it might be better to ask someone for advice. I did get good feedback on it though! and got an A in the class!

Sorry–I misunderstood and thought you were at USC already and trying to transfer majors. No problem with using an essay you’ve already written if you believe in it. Best of luck.
