December 1, 2012: First-Year Application Deadline for Scholarship Consideration
January 10, 2013: First-Year Application Deadline
February 1, 2013: Transfer Application Deadline for Scholarship and Regular Consideration

I checked their deadlines and I was wondering when I'm supposed to submit my application. What's "Deadline for scholarship Consideration"? How do I even apply for a scholarship? If I don't submit by December 1st, does that mean I can't get any scholarships?

Sorry I'm such a newbie!

if you apply by Dec. 1st, you’re eligible to be considered for the full, half, or quarter tuition scholarships. I think only about a thousand people out of ~25,000 received one of these, so it’s really competitive. If you miss the deadline, you can still get other ones (which would include the national merit half-ride).

basically if you think you have a chance at a merit scholarship try to get it in by december 1st otherwise apply by january 10th

Just apply by Dec 1 to maximize your chance for any merit money.

What if you’re not interested in the scholarship but want to show that USC is your number one choice? I thought that priority could say that USC was your top choice or would they not understand that?

usc ends up being a “safety option” a lot of times because top applicants try for the scholarship as a possible fallback choice (of course, few of them actually get it anyways). In other words, it doesn’t really confer an advantage in interest as you’re still considered RD, not EA. Show USC is your #1 choice by communicating with your regional admissions officer (don’t annoy them though) and write a good Why USC essay.

Alright, thanks guys!
