Excuse the stretched pun in the title (dorm life/dornslife). I am planning on putting my room choice down for next year by the end of the day today and I need some advice on where to live. Here are some facts about me:

I LOVE sports. I live and die with college football and basketball so sports is going to be a huge part of my life at USC

I am sociable: I like to go out and party on the weekends. I am planning on joining a frat second semester freshman year

I also enjoy getting good grades and hope to do so at SC.

I was hoping to find a dorm that would embody my interests. I think I have it down to Birnkrant or New/North. I stayed a night at Birnkrant a few weeks back, and didn't find that the people were really similar to me. They didn't like sports and were more interested in things that I didn't care about. The people I interacted with were very smart, but they were interested in subjects like fantasy and video games and that is the total opposite of me. I was wondering if this was a weird occurrence in birnkrant or that was similar to most of the dorm. I was hoping that someone could help me make my decision based on these facts. Thanks!

Birnkrant has alot of the big scholarship people so naturally you will have some quirky people…

Sounds like you would be a perfect fit for New/North, put those as your first 2 choices and at this point in time, you will definitely get one or the other.

There are different types of people in all of the dorms. I’m a current USC freshman (girl) living in New/North, and I know “nerdy” kids and the athletic, sociable types in both BK and N/N. I have plenty of friends in BK who party frequently, and some of them are involved in Greek life - not as many, however, as are in N/N.

New North really is the stereotypical party dorm. All nights of the week. I live on the second floor (by chance) which for some reason is known as the party floor, but my dorm room is right by the door of the main stairs. Because of that, I haven’t really gotten to know most of the people on my floor. If I walk down the hall at night, it pretty much always smells like week, and there are always drunk people running all over the place (as a pre-med kid I literally do not understand how they’re always raging, do they not have to study?!). I party the standard Thursday/Friday/Saturday, but Sundays and Tuesdays seem pretty standard in addition to that in N/N, especially if you’re Greek. There are people who get great grades and people who don’t; you always have the option to go to the library if you want to get out of the hectic atmosphere of N/N.

If you want a good alternative somewhere in between, I’d suggest Pardee, maybe. The floors aren’t co-ed, but they alternate guys and girls. You won’t lose any opportunities to meet girls though - I have friends in Pardee and they’re always hanging out on each others floors. There’s a large Greek presence from both guys and girls living in Pardee, but at the same time, it’s not as wild as N/N… you don’t have as many dorm room parties as we see. And even though they’ve introduced the check-in system to get into the different dorms, it’s easy enough to get to N/N if you have friends in there and want to party in there, but that’s more for non-Greeks (cause they can’t get into the frat parties).

If you have any questions about any of the dorms, feel free to ask!

From what I have heard from other comments and my personal experience at USC, New/North’s 2nd floor is definitely a big party floor so if you are looking for a ton of partying, then I would recommend that floor at New/North.

As for Birnkrant, I have not heard much about it either way.

Pardee though I’ve heard about. There is one floor (I think the 5th,) that does have a ton of fratty guys on it and according to my friend there, they keep him up pretty late and can be really noisy. As for the other floors on Pardee, it’s not exactly a “party” floor.

Btw, I’m a USC freshman, my views don’t represent the school. Feel free to message me if you have any more question.
