Does anyone know which dorms at USC are the best? Or which ones are closest to general classes? Or does anyone have general information regarding any of the specific suites/residence halls? Thanks!
additionally, how uncomfortable are the dorms with no AC? I absolutely despise the heat but only the suite housing have AC and I would really like the traditional college dorm experience.
@Elphione same here! hopefully someone answers??
Also, is anyone else having a problem starting the housing application? I’m trying to get a password but it says it could not be sent.
@tkline333 we won’t be able to request until tuesday!
oh ok thank you very much! @manduhluv
@tkline333 np! do you know which ones you’re going to request?
@manduhluv right now I’m thinking new, north, and pardee as top 3, you?
@tkline333 i was thinking all 3 of the suites (bc air conditioning) but now i’m not sure
Same boat. I love AC and cant stand the heat
but want the dorm experience. I dont know what to do
@bananafofanna that’s exactly my dilemma! do you know which dorms you are considering?
I read some posts on reddit and CC and it only gets unbearingly hot during the summer and early autumn, but it gets so bad that students had to sleep in the lobby or the RAs’ rooms because they had AC. Most others woke up drenched in pools of sweat, or could not sleep at all. The suite dorms are starting to look increasingly appealing, haha.
@Elphione my top 3 choices were all the 3 suites, but then i read that the ones w/o ac (new and north) were the most social and the suites are kinda far away…i’m not sure what i’m going to do! what about you?
Do we have to accept admittance and put down our $300 fee, before we send in our application for housing?
To address all the questions about AC. You’ll find that AC only matters during the summer months in the beginning of the semester. Additionally, while many dorms do not have AC, a lot of buildings do including libraries so you can always go to those places if you feel like it is too hot.
No residential hall at SC is far away. You can reach each corner of campus in 15 minutes or less. Many ride bikes.
There are YouTube videos of the dorms. It is possible to be social in any residence. You can meet others through classes, study groups, clubs, athletics or religious organizations.
Faculty residential advisors in each freshmen hall provide social and cultural opportunities. Welcome week has mixers and events every day and evening. Meeting others should not be a problem.
I hope more current students will add to this thread.
My D is thinking about the WISE Community (Women in Science and Engineering) Her major is Chemistry, but she has a theater and art background, and wants a social dorm. Is the WISE community very social? Should she choose the Arts and Performance community instead. Her other option is the GO! Outdoor community. Thoughts anyone?
@manduhluv my first choice is fluor, followed by birnkrant and maybe new/north. I read that new/north is kinda dirty and always loud because it’s a party dorm, and I’m not sure if I want to live/study in this environment, since I prefer to study in my room instead of the library. The other suites are very antisocial, parkside is called the dark side etc and many of the international students there don’t really speak English? I’m not sure but fluor is my top choice since it’s close to the Cinematic Arts building and I’m an SCA student, and it’s not that hard to go to someone else’s dorm for parties.
There is Parkside IRC (International) which is the one they call darkside, no english there is pretty true. Then there is Parkside Arts & Humanities, the newest (and maybe the nicest) suite style dorm at USC with AC. Two totally different buildings and environments.
does anyone know when we’re getting our password information emailed to us so that we can sign on to the housing portal?
